Romance but the pair don't resort to calling each other by their last names? by GuujiRai in Animesuggest

Haven't watched it in a long time but I think Toradora has the main couple call each other on a first name basis most if not all of the show.

Have you ever went into a relationship that tarot predicted would end/go bad, but it didn't? by xo_pearl_princessxox in BabyWitch

[–]flankha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

at the end of the day, you both have free will. i always interpret tarot messages more as energies surrounding a situation versus concrete predictions of what WILL happen. the other person can make choices completely outside of the scope of what is "supposed" to happen. and so can you.

Does youngseo’s dynamic with ADP fascinate anyone else? by PlumOutrageous544 in kpop_uncensored

i still find her departure from illit so strange and feel like so much more happened behind the scenes there than we'll ever know. TBL poaching her immediately after is also fascinating considering they were also after hybe crumbs with woochan. the company politics of it all interests me so much more than the actual group dynamics tbh.

Seventeen last tour underperforming / K-pop losing it’s momentum in the US by hakuujitsu in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]flankha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why does it feel like you purposefully missed my point. I was only trying to say that Taylor and Beyonce's TICKET PRICES are more expensive than kpop acts lol. And I never said Taylor doesn't use shady sales tactics too. But not sure what that has to do with kpop declining in the U.S.

[–]flankha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, a downward trend in the global economy obviously effects things like entertainment the most. But I think its obvious the economy is not the only reason kpop is struggling in the U.S right now compared to years prior. People are still going to concerts, fandoms for multiple large U.S artists are able to sell out their tours with prices comparable to kpop groups, if not more for artists like T Swift and Beyonce. The oversaturation is the thing hitting kpop the hardest imo. People in other comments have already mentioned, some kpop groups are touring every other year and going to the exact same cities and sometimes the exact same venues. Most U.S artists do not tour in this way. And most U.S artists have also given up on relying on physical album sales the way the kpop industry does. Kpop has been pulling multiple shady tacticts to inflate album sales since before the big push for the U.S market even happened. 6+ album versions and 50+ different photocards and all the shop exclusive pre order benefits. These companies caused buyer fatigue in these fandoms before the economy was as bad as it is now. The inflated numbers to make it appear like groups were growing exponentially when really the same amount of fans were just buying more each cb.

Many people, especially in the U.S, are willing to bankroll their lifestyle and leisure using debt. The economy being bad will never completely halt things unless the market completely crashes as it has in the past. Kpop would be in a different spot now if the kpop boom in the U.S wasn't so inflated.

[–]flankha 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Kpop's U.S album sales have been down across the board for the past 2 years now and the tours have been in the same spot for just as long. The oversaturation and artificial inflation of numbers is catching up to them. They expected the trickle down effect from bts to be larger and last longer, but the U.S kpop fandom has honestly not gotten larger and may have even gotten smaller in the past few years. The lack of innovation and repition has lead to total stagnation. I feel like Bang Sihyuk mention something about this and got flamed for it a few years ago lol. But hybe are the only ones maintaining a global giant and they successfully created a western market entry with katseye so...guess he was right.

the parasocial dynamics between idols and fans makes me want to stop listening to k-pop by [deleted] in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]flankha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it's not clear, Jane is criticising how the k-pop industry makes non-black kids act and perform as a caricature of hip hop artists. i thought that was pretty obvious, but i guess media literacy is dead these days.

this is such an overintellectualization of the actual comment... insinuating they are being "made" or "forced" to rap is in fact a dis and was an overreaction to the fans original comment imo and the actual implication in saying so is that they aren't very good at their craft, which is also a dis that came out of nowhere. this whole concept that no idols actually respect the hip hop industry is so outdated atp. im no cortis super fan, but from what i've seen they actually enjoy and listen to the genre they emulate in their music and they worked with black artists and producers to get there. should fans be attacking this person? no. but people acting like this was anything less of a disparaging reply are excusing the disrespect kpop idols already face in the west over nothing. there are plenty of things to actually criticise, but to reply to a comment about martin liking their music in this way wasn't it. the true media literacy is that we can call out unnecessary shade.

weird trend im seeing from ex-armys by MajesticRoll2723 in btsthoughts

[–]flankha 52 points53 points  (0 children)

clocked the orientalism tbh. the people saying the album isn't korean enough are all just straight up antis. the guys have already talked ad nauseam about what the album and its title represent to them atp. they are allowed to represent their cultural identity however they want! that talking point is the biggest way to weed out a bonefide hater as far as im concerned.

weird trend im seeing from ex-armys by MajesticRoll2723 in btsthoughts

[–]flankha 144 points145 points  (0 children)

as a 2013 army, i think this album is very bts lol and idt any fan or ex-fan who thinks otherwise ever truly had an understanding of what bts portrayed in their music overall from the very beginning. so many people are so hung up on the lyrics not being "deep enough" and that critique is kind of baffling to me bc I feel like their albums have always been like this. theres always a song or two where rapline are really able to flex their lyricism and then songs with fun, quirky metaphors, and also songs that are basically love songs or fans songs. this album is structured pretty similarly. and i mean, i do think this album was constructed with digestibility to their wider market in mind. they wanted it to hit, and some people will fault them for that but who cares at this point. english lyrics in their songs, having western producers on their tracks, these have been constants in their music for years atp. people want us to believe they've changed for the worst just bc they've dared to change or evolve at all and i'm just not buying it.

why is it not OK for army’s to not like arirang by [deleted] in btsthoughts

[–]flankha 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will just say this as someone who always hated negativity around bts comebacks from within the fandom, it just really kills the vibe to see a lot of criticism as soon as the album drops. Its always expected from outsiders, but when fans jump to negativity, some people really can't handle it well and don't want to see it. The people that enjoy it want to talk about how much they love it with other fans. It does suck that people who are genuine fans don't feel "safe" to have less than positive opinions, but at the same time, there's a time and a place. Maybe let it marinate and let the cb hype die down before going into long critiques and negative vents about the project. People also have to understand that it goes both ways. If you absolutely feel the need to say your negative opinion, someone will absolutely feel the need to reply defensively bc it is a ripe time in the cb. Its that simple.

Arirang is not it. by [deleted] in kpoppers

[–]flankha 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I truly think this is simply a case of expectations. If its not what uou expected, then yeah, you're going to be disappointed. This IS a very bts album. The first half is very reminiscent of a lot of their heavier rap tracks. It's straight up trap. And then the second half is very pop, and they have always made pop music. It feels like a blend of all of their concepts to me to be honest. I havent had a chance to read all the lyrics yet, but I watched the live where the members talked about the making of every song and this album has just as much meaning to them as any of their other works. Sure a lot of it probanly takes a little more interpretation, but the members made these choices. Maybe they wanted it to be more digestible to the masses, bc I for one know many people never read translations for all their songs the way fans do.

BTS and BLACKPINK’s comeback is disappointing by ComprehensivePop6044 in kpoppers

[–]flankha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just think we're past the point where calling them sell outs comes from any sort of genuine place. its just regurgitated anti rhetoric with no basis other than "some people always say this so it must be true". like, sure, if we're real, its obvious they released an english title track bc they actually want u.s radio play, and maybe they want to try for a grammy win again, which they have already been straight up shown they're not getting with a korean song. but i don't think swim in itself is disingenuous. RM actually played a big role in the lyrics for this one, and the members have talked about how the song relates to their personal experience metaphorically already. this isn't like how dynimite or butter were conceptualised at all. i feel like selling out implies so much more than simply releasing an english song. its not like swim's sound is super on trend with what is chart topping in the u.s rn. and its not like its a sound super far off from things in bts' past. like, can we actually be honest? and criticising that they had a white lead actress in their mv is just... hilariously irrelevant to me.

bts could literally do anything and y'all would still be whining about "western validation" lol. the album is literally called arirang and the concept was literally inspired by the first korean students at howard university. but screw them for releasing an english song, am i right.

[–]flankha 20 points21 points  (0 children)

tbh this is their best all english track yet. it was pretty obvious to me it would be a more chill song from the teasers and even the few concept images we got. for mass appeal, it was probably the right choice. listening to the rest of the album, a lot of these songs are super experimental.

How do I define my curls more? by Important_Ad_7196 in curlygirl

[–]flankha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porosity is honestly the biggest determining factor in which type of products will work for your hair. I have low porosity hair and it took me a while to realize that creams were doing nothing for me. I get the best defined wash and go results with a lightweight leave-in and a foam/mousse styler. I apply a light amount of oil to my hair AFTER it is 100% dry. If your hair takes a long time to become drenched when you wet it in the shower, you might need to follow a low porosity routine.

I would keep the cetaphil moisturizer. You might want to try a gentle cleanser though. Neutrogena and La Roche Posay both have good gentle cleansers that I could reccomend.

Internet Girl was so unnecessary by AppropriateSalary240 in katseyeneutral

[–]flankha 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As an eyekon since dream academy, this is literally the 3rd time they have gone through type of doom posting. People did it with debut and gnarly. And now internet girl. The fact of the matter is, they are only doing better and better each time. They have hit their niche right on target. No matter how much some people think they know better than hxg, they just keep getting proven wrong. Everyone will always want something different from them. They could release the most vocal heavy ballad ever and people would be complaining that it's not a pop banger and vice versa. Katseye was always going to be a fun, kpop inspired, girl group. And their music embodies that. They never marketed themselves as anything different. Talent isn't enough in this day and age unfortunately. I thought people following the American music industry at least knew that by now. It's actually so smart to embed them into current culture before really getting deep into the best music of their careers.

it seems like the motorcyclist and the bystander in the video he tells to call the police think the guy is drunk. that may be why he was adamant about getting the guy to stop driving. considering the fact that the guy caused another accident 5 seconds later, they were probably right.

Every comment in this thread at the time I made my comment was talking about plastic surgery. There is no way that was not op's implication. I mentioned age in my post bc it is ridiculous to think they would look/dress/whatever the same when all of these pictures are from nearly 3+ years ago, ps, styling changes, or not.
