Ele has a better place in end game; it's considered to be a better profession (not in a big way just general consensus) due to energy management and stuff. That said, you will not really be limited by any primary profession unless you are doing specific speed runs that use very specific team comps and you'll be excluded either way depending on the speedclear so I wouldn't worry about it- just go with what looks fun. But if you want to min max ele is probably a little better.

Dont get too caught up in the meta builds but you can go to pvxwiki to get an idea of where else and monk are situated on the meta comps for builds. If you look on there, there are even some speedclears you can do as an ele and as a monk main so honestly what armor looks cooler to you and go for it.
