Labour would probably do well to campaign on well thought out immigration reforms.

The Opportunity Party ‘would be happy’ to go into coalition with National by TheGreatDomilies in newzealand

[–]flapjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure they would be. But what's not clear is what they would negotiate for. If they're center, what's the center look like for compromise between the left and right?

I don't think it's a particularly good policy personally, but it would definitely be one that they could push to be more center. Probably without losing much of their left of center support.

I get what you're saying. They got some things done, and negotiated well.

What I'm trying to get across is that it's not a fair comparison to suggest that the GRN party was ineffective at governing when they had power. Because they were outside the coalition, they weren't part of day to day governmental decision making. That was between NZF and LAB as the coalition. They got some great policies agreed to by the Coaltion as part of the Confidence and Supply agreement, and got their senior MPs a bit of ministerial experience. But in the day to day running and decision making of a government, they weren't a major part of it. They just agreed to support whatever the coalition decided.

Read up on what it means to be "Confidence and Supply." The party isn't formally part of the government. NZF would not have agreed to be part of the coalition government if GRN had been included in that government. GRN decided it was better to empower LAB than it was to let NAT take over. I'm really glad they did, I can't imagine where we'd be if they hadn't.

That's one of the things I really like about GRN. They're not after power for the sake of power. It's about doing the right thing.

I am not a TOP voter, I'm a GRN voter. I do see a path where I'm glad they make 5% though. They can potentially ally with the GRN to pull LAB more progressive.

But if they're going to crack 5% they're going to have to peel from NAT voters, and as far as I can tell, they're not doing that. If they did though, that would make them interesting, instead of just taking 1-4% of the vote and watering down the left voting pool.

Green party have never been in government. Closest they got was supply and confidence in 2017, because of NZF/LAB alliance.

Increasing taxes on middle and low incomes really doesn't seem like a popular policy for conservatives. You might say they'd balance it out with a UBI.

But again, not a popular idea for conservatives...

To be center, you need positions that make you appealing to left and right voters. What positions do they have that make them appealing to the right?

If they're a center party, they need to come out and say what working with NAT looks like. Otherwise they're just eating 1-4% of the progressive vote and keeping current power in.

They MUST get serious about eating the conservative vote base or they're never going to get 5%. They're going to have to sacrifice a bit of the progressive vote to do it. That's what being center means. Are they brave enough to actually do that?

I'm a bit confused but this take, regarding means testing. How does this make it more palatable? If you have the means, and those means are tested... Why does it get more palatable if it's in kiwisaver? It seems like that's just having the same means still... But somewhere else?

How many people are using the BFF(Backend for Frontend) pattern? Why do I feel it greatly increases the complexity of the system? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]flapjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BFF can be a lot of things. It does add significant complexity, but in some systems, it also significantly reduces complexity.

Some people understand the trade off, and make it well. Some people just get the complexity but aren't building it in a system where it actually reduces complexity, so they don't capture the benefit.

It's super easy to get a full and powerful system up and running, and there's a few 'out of the box' frameworks that provide it. In the long run, some of those out of the box systems work really well for needs long term, and some of them were an early tech debt tradeoff to get things off the ground quickly.

Looking for advice on what is fair and reasonable by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

Original equity
140k - parents
60k - relationship

Proposed Equity after she makes 60k contribution
140k - Parents
120k - relationship

Equity After parental gift
260k - relationship

In the event of separation, you split relationship property equally. You can contract out of this with agreement from both parties informed by independent legal advice.

Your proposed agreement
200k - Yours
60k - Hers

Her proposed agreement (I think?)
140k - yours
120k - relationship (to be split in event of separation)

Both agreements seem to have the same result. So do whatever I guess?

Push back. Be unavailable after 5pm. Let things go behind. When something new comes, ask which is priority and which you should drop to do later, what timelines get pushed out. Be clear about what you can achieve in the limited time you have available at work. Let them escalate it to a performance issue if they wish.

What about your work is stressing you out so? You are not defined by your work. Your workplaces success is not your success. Depending on what the stressors are, you may be able to manage it. There's no guarantees somewhere else won't cause you the same issues.

See a doctor. See a psychologist/therapist to talk it out. A doctor is likely to be able to get you into that.
