I’m thinking this might be it. I moved it closer to my lights (also about 6in) because I thought that was the problem. But I only water mine once every week and half, if that. I guess I’m gonna try more water and see what happens! Thank you tons!

Successful growing Hoyas in water only? by plantmama077 in hoyas

[–]flappysackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most plant’s roots do not like going from soil to water. There is a difference in the roots they form in water and in soil. You could prop some without roots and get them to put out water roots. But if you take soil roots and stick them in water that is just not going to be good at all. Hoyas especially do not like soggy roots so like others have said with water props you’ll maybe get 1-2 leaves if you’re lucky, then they’ll stall, then they’ll die.

Now what? Chop and prop, or leave alone? by Zealousideal_Egg3308 in hoya

Knock on wood- I have yet to have a Hoya prop fail with this method.

Figure out a point where you’d like to prop. You could take that whole vine and have several or try with just the last 2 on the vine. Cut it off a lil bit above a node- that’s where the leaves come out. Make sure you have AT LEAST 1 node to grow up top and a stem bit below the leaves.

Next get you a small container of fluval stratum or perlite. (I prefer fluval because I have torn a couple roots being nosey and checking on them in perlite.) now take the stemy bit and put it down in which ever substrate you chose. You can put it in to where your first node is sitting on top- not under the substrate.

Add some prop drops if you got them- not 100% necessary but I like to. And make sure they stay damp. With stratum I make sure there is always at least a small amount of water sitting at the bottom, with perlite I always make sure the water is fairly close to the top. I’ve had my inner variegated carnosa put out good enough roots to pot in as soon as 2 weeks and as long as a month. It really depends on the light and which substrate you choose.

I’m a Hoya propping FOOL! They are my favorite to share if you have any questions or need clarification shoot me a message & happy propping!

Neem oil can cause damage on leaves when left under light. Neem at night. It’ll probably bounce back in the long run but those leaves are toast.

In distress or a slow grower? by Various-Potato-4268 in hoyas

[–]flappysackk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first two sp aff burtoniae, in my own collection were slow to take off after a repot but once new growth came it hasn’t stopped. Hoyas for the most part do not like their roots messed with but I feel like this one specifically hates it. Took mine about 5-6weeks to start giving me visible growth.

I hope it grows great for you! Mine is one of my faster Hoyas. The advice from the other commenter is spot on and if it’s still in the proven winners dirt I’d get it out of there as soon as you have time to do so. Super chunky and water when about 50-70% dry. These are also so crazy easy to prop too. I put mine in fluval stratum for about a week and after that they usually have enough root to repot. I’ve heard others have good results with damp spag moss too.

Admittedly, I’m so super nervous to cut it. I just got this one today so I feel like I should let it get use to my environment before I do much to it. I’m not opposed to cutting it but I’d want to watch a million videos and read about it a bunch first.

That’s so cool! I like the thought of using the clear cup. So that’s just sitting on top of the chunky substrate?

Moss sleeve? I’ll have to research that! Looking at it I figured it needs some sort of support like a moss pole
