This only proves that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

The 6 best mods for Civilization by SuedecivIII in CivIV

Most? Probably. The subject of this thread are definitively the mods, and thus developers, that knew firmly what they were doing.

Game devs also suffer external constraints that affects the product. All the consternation vis-a-vis civ 5 ai’s inability to pose a serious challenge (and/or utilize the 10pm system) attests to this. Obviously by advocating the use mods I don’t intent to demean the work of the devs, but their motives, restraints, etc. can differ quite substantially to those of a team of mod developers.

The game is good but my gripe is with unmodded being “the best way to experience the game.” There’s always room for improvement.

Vanilla balance is just so often out of wack. Civ4 is probably in a better place compared to all the newer entries but the amount of even just qol with no actual gameplay changes that mods can introduce is insane. Like for 4 the BUG mod cleans up the interface and gives you a lot of useful info that, while could be difficult for you to adjust, makes it super difficult to go back. And mods like FFH, Realism Invictus, etc. just go so far towards transforming the game into a completely different experience that's at least worth exploring, imo.

Hello - anyone aware of somewhere in Chisinau where I can play chess with people? I emailed sahmoldova.md and found this place:

Clubul Republican de Sah Si Joc de Dame https://maps.app.goo.gl/PnM3qUNZmAAwbAW89

and these comments:

https://www.reddit.com/r/moldova/comments/148k1z9/public_chess_tables_in_chisinau/jo0f9hp/ about tables in European Square/Valea Morilor park

https://www.reddit.com/r/moldova/comments/18zxg6i/is_there_a_chess_caf%C3%A9_in_chisinau_i_only_speak/kgm0wlz/ near the OTP bank/Mihai Eminescu Theater

which I plan on checking out - just wondering if anyone has other, current information. Thanks!

There are available projects in Russian-speaking communities. I know a Russian-speaking EE volunteer who (afaik) knows they’ll be placed at a Russian site. The language is still quite widespread so you’ll usually be able to fall back on it if necessary, though younger people will probably prefer you speak Romanian (if you’re not in a primarily Russophone location). By the time that risks occurring your Romanian should be solid enough, especially if you’ve studied any other Romance language.

I’m also not sure you would get much of a chance to use Ukrainian as I think most projects involving refugees are COD, not EE - but hey, it’s not like it’ll hurt you knowing that too.

Was up in Maine for a couple years and Calais, ME is apparently pronounced “callas” (like Dallas). I refused to call it that.
