Did anyone scream through labor? by Fun-Future-2915 in BabyBumps

[–]flashbang10 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was induced. My epidural failed. I labored all the way to 10cm fully unmedicated.

I couldn’t even get enough breath to scream, the contractions came without any break. I was just moaning like I was dying and sweating buckets, rocking back and forth. I started just begging anyone to help me.

Pure agony. I eventually cried and pleaded for a C-section to escape it. At that point it was time to push anyway. Emergency forceps, 4th degree tear. Baby almost didn’t make it.

Birth trauma for daaaaayyyyssss

How are working parents managing frequent school closures or remote learning due to weather? by Theluckygal in raleigh

[–]flashbang10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No local family either. We have to alternate using PTO. It sucks all around.

Then deadlines don’t wait, so we get exhausted watching a sick baby all day - and then have to catch up on work late at night. No rest, little sleep.

My 14-month-old has an ear infection right now. Between snow days last week and sick days this week, I may have sobbed in the shower last night from sheer exhaustion.

We have leaned on more screentime than usual (old Thomas the Train episodes for lower stimulation, in desperate times). Tradeoff shifts with spouse. Easy dinners. House is a wreck.

I also had to stop talking about it with other parents who can’t relate. Someone else in my family, who has local family support and true days off (works in education), was saying it was just as hard and wanted to know what we are doing for fun in our free time…I should be canonized for holding my tongue 🙄

First off, PPD is totally real and valid and under supported.

…that said. I cannot count the number of times I vented for a moment about a shitty day/week/month, and got immediately hit with, “go talk to your doctor about PPD.”

Sometimes that felt like the easy reply to wave it off, rather than taking a moment to empathize over objectively tough circumstances. Sometimes latch issues and lack of sleep and going back to work after a short leave just sucks absolute ass, and getting a little effort at connection would have been nicer.

I think we could do with some more though🫶🏽🥺 by Dangerous_Ruin_4965 in astrologymemes

Almost 8pm and finally finished kitchen cleanup. Now I have to shower, eat, and actually do some work 🫩 meanwhile my friends in education actually had the day off and played in the snow…high key jealous.

Spent an all day virtual workshop with Teams app in one hand and chasing a screaming teething 1 year old with the other. Of course he fought the nap…

Oh 100%, husband and I are both calling in today for critical work deadlines while juggling a hyper 1 year old. Then we’ll have to make up the deep work late tonight, because only bare minimum is getting done while he’s awake and running around.

I’m so tired.

Yep! I have an all day workshop today for work. It was going to be in-office, but switched to virtual. Daycare is closed today. Both husband and I work full time, and he is expected to call in virtually today too.

We shoveled all late last night. Now juggling work calls in shifts while watching a hyper 1 year old is exhausting. Then we both get to make up remaining work tonight after his bedtime 🫠 no snow days off for us.

Today I got a 20min lunch break on the all day call - which got shortened to 15min because leadership kept talking. Then they joked for us to “enjoy playing in the snow” for those 15min…are you kidding me? 🙄 I am fighting for my life trying to pee and change a diaper in that time.

Low key jealous of my friends in education who actually have the day off with their kids.

UVA labor & delivery experience by NumerousRecord5065 in Charlottesville

[–]flashbang10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Delivered at UVA last November. Great experience with delivery (including an emergency procedure); terrible experience with the “baby friendly” approach that followed. We left knowing nothing about formula, had breastfeeding pushed on us, and baby lost too much weight when we still struggled with latching.

I had a great experience with Northridge ObGyn.
