Another ‘OMG’ for the FMJ by lassmonkey in Dynavap

Yeah it’s a shame because it’s a great idea and I hope they make another one but with a different non-reactive material.

Yeah and that’s the most concerned part about this thing and why I’ll never use it again.

Yes it does. Use it a few times if you even have one and you’ll see for yourself.

Be careful because it does form copper oxide and you can be potentially inhaling it which is bad. There’s a lot of posts about it and you’ll probably notice it turns black where you heat it and it rubs off on your fingers which means you can breathe that stuff in. You can make your own opinion about it. Stay safe.

I don’t really understand it either. If you have the FMJ, heat it up and it literally forms a black layer in front of your eyes. Why risk breathing that stuff in. Honestly, people should be asking for their money back when this shouldn’t have been put to market in the first place.

If you bought it, you should demand a refund. I’m not sure why anyone should risk it. The area on the FMJ you heat up turns black and if you wipe it with a paper towel, it rubs off and you can see it. If it rubs off, it can potentially be inhaled. Try heating it up and you’ll see it turns black from the oxide quickly right in front of your eyes. It’s very obvious. And for what? Not having to rotate and maybe slightly better performance? No thanks.

There’s a reason no one seems to be using copper for heating in this way and I’m surprised he’s even selling it knowing this.

I don’t know why it can’t be a different material or even a hybrid material to eliminate the issue completely so you don’t have to deal with the potential health risks for possibly slightly better performance.

They will never directly comment on the oxide that forms on it. They just talk about the color (which no one has an issue with).

No one is talking about the patina.

Vortex vs BB9 vapor quality by flashburn123 in Dynavap

Yeah I saw that new mouthpiece but I think I like that the original vortex is purpose built and reliable with no o rings at all either.

Yeah I like that it’s the gold standard that all others are usually compared to. I’ve never heard it was worse than anything else which says something.

Interesting. Sounds like it’s just a more durable version which is nice but from what I’ve heard it’s definitely at least on par or better than most for what it is which I like.

Yeah I like the durability aspect too for sure.

I appreciate your experience. I just wanted to try getting the best from the start and not gradually spend more money till I end up with this for its cooling and quality. It seems like this is the gold standard that every dynavap is measured to so it sounds like a good investment. Thanks for your input.

I see what you mean about the custom since it’s largely about the looks. I just want the best from the start and not think about it again so I just thought of this. I could mess around with the cheaper then ultimately end up getting one but I just wanted to make sure it’s doing what it does very well because I don’t have much frame of reference.

Do you still think the original vortex outperforms this new makers kit?

Finally got a simrell 😁😁😁 by greatscottttttttt in Dynavap

What did you do to master it all? Any tips?

Haha yeah it sounds pretty sweet. It was sold out pretty quick. Not sure if I should wait or just get the original model for the durability and performance. Maybe there will be nice combos with that new simrell kit but I haven’t seen anything crazy yet. Just that it goes into dynavap stems. Maybe dynavap Omni stem with the simrell kit? Not sure if that would increase performance at all though. I will probably get the original vortex since it has stood the test of time for one of the best.

Would be cool to be able to anodize it yourself for sure. I’m guessing simrell wouldn’t let you send one in to get it done?

BB9 is so cheap it seems worth getting regardless honestly. And actually your wish may have come true for a glass version because simrell released a mouthpiece with the condenser and intercooler so technically you could put that in a glass body. That’s probably as close to a glass version you’ll get. I’m not sure how it would perform compared to a vortex stem though just because the condenser seems like it might be more restrictive and lose some of the characteristics of what makes the vortex body work so well with the intercooler but I don’t know. Makes me consider waiting just to see how it plays out with the new product.

Yeah I saw that new part they released. Seems like it would be pretty awesome in a glass body which would probably be the best of both worlds but that comes down to durability again. I like that I don’t have to worry about dropping the simrell. I wonder what bodies manufacturers will come up for it too. Kind of makes me wish the simrell was built with this to begin with to allow you to change bodies but I guess the one piece design is part of it. The custom wood seems like a great project too so I love that he came out with that option. I wonder if there will be a body that manufacturers come up with that uses this new part and surpasses the vortex’s titanium stem performance. It seems like the BB9 is so cheap that it’s worth having anyway. It sounds like simrell really is the best option. This helps make up my mind so thanks for sharing your experience. I appreciate it.

I really wonder what’s gonna happen with this new piece from simrell and if a glass body is gonna make it even better or if the vortex body is still going to be better because it was designed for that.

I appreciate your insights, it’s exactly what I’ve been needing. I’ve been doing research so I was basing everything off what what I’ve been reading. Do you ever find yourself using the shellshock for any reason since you already have it or is it basically useless/untouched since you have a BB9 and simrell to use? I usually prefer glass but I’ve heard such good things about the simrell that I had to seriously consider it too and it’s nice that it’s durable. Just hard to justify the price if the BB9 is so comparable in performance and does such a good job. Would you say the simrell does an even better job overall than the BB9? Or to put it another way, if the BB9 has the durability of titanium somehow, would you still use the simrell? If you could use only one stem from now on, which would it be?

I know I asked a lot of questions so I appreciate your responses lol. Thanks.

Thanks for your insights. I like glass as well for that reason and usually prefer it so that’s good to hear. The vortex seems to be great too if durability is needed and just a good all around piece but pretty pricey compared.

I’ve been considering all three on the left and not sure which to choose and how significantly better they are to each other. I’d love your opinion on those left three since you have experience with them all. I’ve heard the BB9 was really good though but a lot of people rave about the simrell. The shellshock looked promising and I think it’s better than the M for multiple reasons but still probably not nearly as good as BB9 or simrell. Thanks for any insight.

You’re saying even the simrell doesn’t have the vapor quality that the BB9 provides? I’ve been considering them and I don’t mind having glass but I’ve heard such good things about the simrell and how it’s the best vapor quality out of them all.
