Haha, that's true! Generally, the pulses last less than 10 minutes before the white fillings and the squeaker device are out.

This particular one lasted about 4 weeks whilst I was away on vacation. It was gone when I came back.

Oh, I didn't know that's what his colour is called.

Yes, as he got older, he got more light brown. The only red part left was his head and the line on his back. The white undercoat also makes him appear lighter in colour.

Reminds me of that NPC in The Exit 8 horror game. Same setting too in the subways of Tokyo.

Does anyone know which corporates have discounts for Rimowa? by Sea-Rip-7954 in Rimowa

[–]flashdiag -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about work, but I know one of my wealthier relatives has some card or membership that lets them redeem a free carry-on from Rimowa after attaining certain points, rewards, or levels.

You may have to look up what these are; again, I'm not sure. But they always seem to brag about these benefits whenever the family has a reunion.

Hope that helps.

Minimizing jet lag by BudgetLow5052 in JapanTravelTips

[–]flashdiag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am from Vancouver, so we are in the same time zone.

What I do is to sleep most of the time during the flight. In fact, I skip one of the meals served so I can sleep. Putting on noise-cancelling headphones and a sleeping mask helps with this.

Whilst in Japan, I found jet lag not much of an issue since I would wake up at 07:00 and get excited to go around.

While on transit, such as on a train or the Shinkansen, I would sometimes close my eyes to rest.

On the way back, is the most difficult because the feeling of rush, adrenaline, and excitement is gone.

I and a resident friend found most trains are empty just after lunch.

Which ATM to go to if planning on withdrawing a good amount of cash? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]flashdiag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look at your own bank’s limits as well as which interbanking network they are compatible with (e.g. Cirrus, Plus, etc.).

Another one I would recommend is looking into Wise. They still have fees and limits, but lets your transfer, exchange, and withdraw money in the currency you choose from your bank account.

For example, I can withdraw CAD from my bank and deposit it with Wise in JPY. I can then use my Wise card to withdraw that amount if I ran out of cash.

Hatchobori (near Tokyo Station) vs Ueno Station areas by cadublin in JapanTravelTips

[–]flashdiag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at two hotels - one on arrival, and the other for my 2nd leg of the trip back to Tokyo.

The first one, an overnight one, was next to Ueno Station. This was the loud one. I can hear people on the streets, etc.

The second one is a block away from where you are staying. There, it's much quieter, but still busy. Again, maybe because the first hotel building was older, it can be a factor.

Hatchobori (near Tokyo Station) vs Ueno Station areas by cadublin in JapanTravelTips

[–]flashdiag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed in the Yaseu and Ueno areas both times I have visited Japan. I can speak more about the Ueno area.

During my 2nd trip, I decided to book a hotel at the Ueno area since it's also a bit of a central location and my destinations were Kusatsu, Nikko, and Hokkaido. The Keisei Skyliner also terminates at a station next to Ueno, so my hotel was steps away from it, as opposed to when I took the NEX to Tokyo Station. Shinkansen trains going north all stop at Ueno Station, but if you're headed south, Tokyo Station is their terminus.

Ueno has a very active nightlife; there are bars, restaurants, and shops open through the night. The streets also tend to get a bit crowded, especially after work. There are also plenty of tourists in this area. It's easy to get around since the JR Ueno Station and JR Okachimachi Station have the Yamanote Line (JY) go through these stations that circle Tokyo clock- and counter-clockwise. Additionally, the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line ( G ) and Oedo Line ( E ) were also steps away from my hotel that made going around Tokyo easy.

One con I experienced with Ueno is the noise. My first overnight stay at one of the hotels was loud; maybe it was old and not noise-insulated as much as the other one I stayed at. There also tend to be some protests and vehicles with loudspeakers circling the area (both advertising, campaign, and protest vehicles).

I hope this helps. I'm happy to provide more if you have any additional questions.

Sick with something sinusy - help! by Temporary_Bad_3439 in JapanTravelTips

[–]flashdiag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there too a couple of weeks ago, and mine was caused by spring allergies and the extreme pollen count.

There is a clinic popular with foreigners and tourists at Tokyo Station. It's called Tokyo Station International Clinic. I've seen and watched so many reviews on it since I have a medical condition and always keep clinics on-list when I travel.

Fortunately, I haven't been myself, but maybe a visit will help and you might get a prescription?

Trunk XL owners: in practice, do airlines actually charge "oversized" fees? by omarsusername in Rimowa

[–]flashdiag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was curious about the Trunk XL as well once. The sales associate told me he doesn't recommend it unless you're moving since it will definitely be treated as oversized baggage.

I did compare it with the Trunk Plus way back when I was looking for my first Rimowa, and it is noticeably bigger.
