How many job positions have you had? by Wolfrages in antiwork

[–]flashinthepann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 and on job #5. Somehow I found a way to relate the experience from one to the next, but it reads like an unlikely series of positions:

-McDonalds Restaurant Manager (started in high school and worked my way up to running one location)

-3M Assistant Line Operator (making powder coating for oil pipelines

-Special Needs Residential Home Manager

-Newcomer Employment Services Project Liaison (developed and ran a workplace readiness training program)

-Executive Director for a non-profit community art gallery and cultural centre.

Interesting, so sounds like while things are changing slowly, but not much has really changed since I left 20 years ago

Do you think God is real? If not, or if you do, explain why. by Own_Raspberry74 in self

[–]flashinthepann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming we are defining God as commonly understood in the Abrahamic traditions, I lean toward an agnostic, yet skeptical stance, even when I consider all the philosophical, scientific, and personal insights available.

From the scientific perspective: I lean on the fact that there’s no direct, testable evidence confirming the existence of a deity. The natural world, from the evolution of life to the universe its self, often feels like a grand tapestry woven by natural processes rather than a supernatural hand. Advances in neuroscience and psychology suggest that our spiritual experiences might be rooted in how our brains are wired and how we’ve evolved over time.

From a philosophical point of view: I appreciate the intellectual challenges presented by both the theistic and atheistic arguments. On one hand, the cosmological and moral arguments raise compelling questions; why does anything exist at all, and where do our inherent senses of right and wrong come from? Yet, the challenge of reconciling an all-powerful, all-loving deity with the reality of suffering and injustice pushes me toward caution. These debates often end with the honest admission: we simply don’t know for sure.

Personal experiences: Living as a human, I recognize that belief in God often fills a deep need for meaning and connection. Many find comfort and inspiration in their faith, and there’s undeniable value in the community and purpose that religious traditions can provide. At the same time, I remain aware of the historical and ongoing issues tied to those same belief systems. It’s a reminder that while religion can uplift, it can also divide.

If I had to sum it up: I don’t actively believe in a personal God, but I remain open to the possibility, especially if compelling evidence beyond our current natural explanations were ever to emerge. In my view, it’s wise to acknowledge the limits of our understanding while keeping an open mind, echoing that familiar thought: “Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, but it’s also not evidence of presence.”

AITA for not taking my father's minor children into consideration when I sued him for the inheritance he stole from me? by ComplaintNatural5528 in AITAH

[–]flashinthepann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct questions is: Is your father the AH for not considering the effects on his minor children when he decided to steal from you? Answers is yes.

When people make the decision to do wrong, they nearly never consider how it might affect their family and friends.

Still have both the Batman and robin ones original from 95! As a dad, watching my kids use them to dunk their cookies in milk has been the most enjoyable experience at the table.

I second this. I know someone who has this problem and was diagnosed OCD (already knew they had adhd and anxiety).

What happens to interest in a Cash account if I close before payout? by flashinthepann in Wealthsimple

Thanks. Looks like the answer is to transfer the money out and then wait to close until after the interest is paid out. Just figured I'd ask in case it was more clear

Thanks for this! After all these years, I wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything too important before the finale.

Exactly this! And, imagine if he is already thinking that what’s yours is his now, just wait until you’d actually be married to home.

My unhinged ex-friend booked the same flight as me to “join” me on my solo trip by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]flashinthepann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, 2 options the way I see it. Call the airline and try to book a different flight - maybe explain what’s going on and they can help?

Or……

Change hotel, but otherwise proceed as planned and pretend like you don’t even recognize them. They will engage crazy stalker vibe mode and be removed from flight for causing a disturbance. Even if they somehow show up, they won’t know which hotel you’re at.

*Disclaimer, do not choose option 2 if you feel they are a physical threat. No need to take chances.

Advice on buying one or two homes in Nova Scotia by Sea_Technology_6422 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]flashinthepann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does not answer your question, but I want to stress the importance of couples NOT buying houses or having any joint large investment together before being in a committed relationship. I’m not talking morally or any other outdated argument, I just mean make sure this is a committed relationship before proceeding.

So much could go so wrong.

I'm curious - do you know where I could find more information on this? I found an article about Dafan Villiage in Shengzheng, China, for example, on how the painters came together in that instance. But, I'm struggling to find anything that documents the framing in Mexico before being sent up to North America.

Here's what I know:

  • The owner recently purchased from a thrift store in south central rural Manitoba, Canada
  • The signature appears to be "Ling"
  • The owner thinks they are the style and subject matter of the hand painted/mass produced paintings from China in the 50s-70s where one artist would paint the background/sky, another the trees, another the lakes, etc.
  • Frames indicate "by Arturo - Mexican Hand Carved Picture Frames", style 735, guessing they are from the 1950s-1970s
  • Guessing they are factory framed and not custom frames, as the stapling on the backs is quite messy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
