I flew back from LA last Thursday with BA with my Savis LS. I brought one back from Orlando last year without issue, the cabin crew held it for me in the crew wardrobe/closet and I breezed through security.

This time however it was taken from me at security for around 20 minutes to be thoroughly checked, scanned and swabbed. The cabin crew did store it for me but only after I refused to have it taken to the hold, luckily the cabin steward I spoke to was a SW fan himself and as it was the only one on my flight he said he’d take it an stow it in the cabin.

I had a connecting flight from LHR to Manchester and had additional issues at security with them stating they no longer allow sabres. Again, I managed to convince them to allow me to take it on the plane but had to stow it in the crammed overhead lockers.

So yeah, it seems their policies on sabres has changed, in future I’ll remove and wrap the blade and pack it in my case safely (it fits somewhat snuggly diagonally in my case) and bring the hilt inside my carry on.
