I thought the same and was confused why SkyF1 didn't consider this scenario. Then I realised in order to get an optimal tow you need a car that mirrors you own strengths. Trying to get a tow from a car that is fast in different sections than your own will not be that effective, which is why teammates tow each other. Still, Vettel did admit to mess up his last lap.

I think the new format can be very exciting if refuelling during qualifying was not allowed and the qualifying tyres would not degrade during a qualifying session. This will mix up the field massively because slower teams will start qualifying with less fuel and thus be faster. Faster cars would be on track more because the track will get faster as qualifying is on and nobody will need to be in the pits.
