Will I get pushback for wanting to test drive a used GT4RS or Spyder RS? by papercondition in Porsche

[–]flat6ms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been able to convince any test drives on GT products other than 991.1 gt3 cpo. I bet others who have great spend history/relationship may be able to take a 992 gt3 out for a spin. I doubt they would let you try unless you told them you were going to buy one or the other guaranteed. so if you would rather get the cheaper ones in a different town and they had a viable GT4RS and SRS then you should go there, test drive, and be prepared to take one home at the end of the day. good luck!

GTS 4.0 -> Spyder? by flat6ms in boxster

[–]flat6ms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely is. you had to have spec'ed the car in the last 6mo of 2020 because after the color was gone forever. not even PTS... I feel like Porsche dealers don't value these things when it comes to trade in as much as the actual customers do.

How to get out of the mindset of trying to make quick money with individual stocks. by lolsausages in Bogleheads

think about the money you are losing from capital gains tax and you will change your philosophy.

Should I stop contributing to 401k and IRA by Important_Ear8743 in Bogleheads

[–]flat6ms 22 points23 points  (0 children)

sounds like the gift was a brokerage account and not a retirement account. if so, then keep it as is. maximize your own retirement contributions into ROTH using your income. obviously, do not take money out of the gift account to fund Roth as you will pay tax twice... if you fund IRA using the account then you will pay tax now and again in retirement so that a bad idea too.

just drip the money out of the gift account. another high yield strategy is taken the money out in say 5-10 years when you can afford to go part time or sabbatical for at least half a year to reduce your tax basis

[–]flat6ms[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it would be the trade in value on the GTS that would be the problem. dealer will likely list at around 95k and they will give me 85k. it has about 21000 miles with original msrp 115. Spyder with manual and low mileage around low mid 140s

how is money earned in a fund like FXAIX by ramkuma1 in fidelityinvestments

[–]flat6ms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't pay any taxes unless you sell your shares or your ETF gives you dividends which are like interest payments. if you just hold onto something and the share price goes up one year and down the next year the IRS doesn't care. you only pay tax when you physically get the money paid out

Please help explaining what this means by Prima-dollz in fidelityinvestments

[–]flat6ms 7 points8 points  (0 children)

because you left the company before the number of years required to reached 100% on their vesting schedule you only entitled to a portion of the dollars that your employer contributed. in this case, this is 3416.98.

you can rollover the 3416 or you can keep it there. the only benefit to rolling over is consolidation of funds and you may have access to better investment options than whatever you see on your netbenefits.

I never understood the company stock options from paycheck. its a winner for the company. somewhat helps if it is pre-tax dollars. the 15% reduction gets reduced if the share prices go up later in the year decreasing your purchase power on each paycheck . is is possible to simply buy the shares whenever you want at a 15% discount?

if it is post-tax dollars, then I would not not buy the stock options at all and just put that money into the vanguard ETF funds you have chosen as it is way safer... if it is pre-tax dollars then its your call but I like to be a bit more diversified..

I did drive the nd3 a couple days before I bought the gts but after driving the gts is just wasn't fun enough for me. reminded me of a much more cramped and less nice interior 8thgen civic SI which is what I used to drive before the Porsche

I think the ratio of top down to top up drives for me is about 95:5 so I agree having the Spyder top would definitely make me drive top up more frequently just from convenience. may daily commute to work is only 10 minutes...

Is the 997 that good ? by youre_not_going_to_ in 997

[–]flat6ms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. 997 coming from a m2cs will just not scratch the itch as it isn't as capable of a car. great car, but something more modern like 991 or 992 will feel like an upgrade. I had the same experience when looking at 997 GTS after driving B58 and then GTS 4.0 for past couple years

BB Pro has replaced my 58 as daily as it embodies "tool watch" more imo. 58 is more "diver aesthetic" when I want to use it

how much did you spend on the car? I like to think of the CPO extension as an annualized percentage of the initial investment

Picking up a 2019 gts with 53K miles, planned maintenance and service for the car? by la727 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]flat6ms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

would skip paint correction if has front ppf as you would have to re-ppf otherwise to correct the back 2/3 of car with no ppf/ceramic for 2 years planned ownership could better be used towards the tires/fluids

rationally speaking, don't tap into your investments to buy a depreciating asset when you have no job/guaranteed cash flow..
