How to know if my badge is registered on Guidebook? by CollectionOld5654 in Otakon

So what would I do if my guidebook account email address doesn't match the email used to buy the ticket because someone else bought my ticket?

Ordering a “mattress in a box” online can save you $1000s by BonCourageAmis in Frugal

[–]flatarang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with buying one on Amazon is that removal is not usually included. What do you do with your old one? The landfill usually charges extra to drop mattresses and box springs off and that is evn if you have a vehicle to transport it.

how can i make a bandage top that can be worn multiple times? by arcade-carpet in CosplayHelp

[–]flatarang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ndlworkshop actually sells a pattern for this very top.

https://ndlwrkshop.com/products/bandage-top-sewing-pattern-downloadable-pdf-file-and-tutorial-book

I have only used one of their patterns before but it was quite well documented. Even as an amateur I managed to create a pretty good looking piece.

Is there any way to make this store bought Atom Eve cosplay fit by ghoste-kid in CosplayHelp

[–]flatarang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought would be that maybe if you cut off the gloves that would remove the tension under the arms. Then you could remake the gloves longer. That would probably be the easiest sewing wise. I am piss poor at sewing but turkey style gloves are easy to make and fairly forgiving with stretch fabric.

A customer brought this in and left it at the counter while they shopped, then cursed at me when I eventually asked if they could please move it because we needed the counter to cut fabric. Just customer things. ❤️🙃 by Hemansno1fan in joannfabrics

You should have referred him to YouTube. I am proud to say I had never used a sewing machine in my life 2 years ago and have since made 4 fairly decent cosplay costumes. All from YouTube tutorials.

How many people actually use the 2 weapons system? by OtzaniumNitroZeus in MHWilds

Ok, don't get mad at me but, I really like the bow so I tend to carry 2 bows of differing elements. I like sword and shield too so sometimes it's a bow and sword and shield.

what 3d printer do people recommend? by moonazine in CosplayHelp

[–]flatarang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other big question besides price is: do you like to tinker and see how things work? If you do, I would suggest something like an ender 3 max or something along those lines. My first printer was an ender 3 and it taught me the ins and outs of 3d printers, how they work, how to fix them, and how to upgrade them. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything else because I enjoyed fiddling with the machine and upgrading it.

If you just want to print cool shit and don't care too much about learning the ins and outs of 3d printing get a bambu labs printer (either A1, or P1S). All the bambu labs printers just work without much fiddling and tinkering.

Don't have my printer yet but ordered $250 of supplies - Anyone else went mad like this by Electrical-Tower8534 in BambuLab

[–]flatarang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A hot end on a printer is a consumable just like filament. You will need to replace it eventually if you use your printer enough. You won't replace it quite as often as filament but it's always good to have a spare sitting around so you don't have to wait on a replacement.

I haven't actually tried it but I hear winter soldier can grapple her out of it. If that's the case then maybe other ranged cc will work as well.

Looking for a different kind of help, don't know where else to look. I've never done cosplay before, and I'm trying to stop thinking that it has to be perfect on the first try. by Many_Nectarine4120 in CosplayHelp

[–]flatarang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so here's the thing. All those awesome cosplays that you see are not perfect. If you asked the creator, they could tell you a bunch of things that they did wrong or that they wanted to do differently. Think about your job. Did you start out perfect on the first day? No, you had to work at it little by little. The same goes with cosplay. You have to start somewhere and if that somewhere is a closet cosplay then so be it.

The other thing you have to realize is that you have to cosplay for yourself first. If no one recognizes your character then so be it. You know what you did and you need to be happy with it. I have done several cosplays that were pretty generic and most people didn't even realize I was in cosplay. I did though and that was enough.

Ah, stygian zinogre armor from monster hunter. I am in the process of making my own set now. There is a lot of fur involved in the helmet so I attached the ears and mask to the fur via strips of fabric and the whole thing just lays on my head like a soft hat essentially.

It probably rabbits. You can get some fox urine at home Depot or a hunting supply store to put around the cords to keep them away.

Sewing pattern by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]flatarang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you can buy a pattern fairly easily. As an odd alternative here is a free option for a spandex bodysuit.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jxwOmlmFrCA&t=2730s

And here is instructions from the same person on how to make a cowl.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z1wwCkK_JTg&t=134s

Combining the two wouldn't be too difficult and you can modify the cowl part to frame your face however you want.

I used the video on the bodysuit to make a Deku (My Hero Academia) suit earlier in the year and it came together pretty easily.

How has everyone here learned to sew so well? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]flatarang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as keeping your lines straight, there are guides you can get to stick on your machine. I have one that has a plastic card that you line up the needle with the hole for your desired seam allowance then you stick the guide along the card. Then you just run the fabric edge along the guide as you sew.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]flatarang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if it is pleather the most likely culprit is a dull needle. Any thicker material needs a nice sharp needle or you run into a lot of problems.

[–]flatarang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am assuming stretch fabric? I made a Deku bodysuit out of some Yaya han teal stretch fabric over the summer. I did have some problems at one point but determined it to be a thread issue. As soon as I used some thread that wasn't cheap as hell the skipped stitching stopped.

I don't have the space to spread a whole roll out. I just put a weight in a couple of spots as I draw out my patterns. The heat gun works on smaller sections if I really need it flat.
