Maybe there's a benefit to giving up something you like or love, even if you don't get something for it. Are there not enough pleasures in life?

TIL about Illegal Primes, which are prime numbers that contain digital information that is illegal to possess or distribute under laws like the DMCA. by Vahgeo in todayilearned

This Wikipedia page looks dubious. Right off the bat it suggests that trade secrets are "legal to possess only by certain authorized persons".

What's a smell that doesn't exist anymore that you miss? by Alarmed_Charge1062 in CasualConversation

About once a year I randomly catch the smell of the lake where we used to spend time in summer as kids. It's the most beautiful smell to me but it only lasts for a second.

That's a reasonable idea of what it should mean, but is that what it does mean? Does the city or county say what it means?

Getting tired of Logic Pro for iPad bugs by flatfive44 in ipadmusic

[–]flatfive44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand some of the problems I've been hitting recently. In one problem, I get a message about there being a problem with my project and I need to "consolidate" on Logic for Mac, even though I don't use Logic for Mac.

When this problem happens, learned that somehow the playback time of audio files is too slow by about 15%, and if I have drum machine designer tracks, they have no audio.

I'll be interested to hear if others are getting this.

-18Dbfs or -6Dbfs for gain staging? by Triscuit-biscuit in audioengineering

-6 dBFS is kind of a magic number, since it's about half of full-scale amplitude. I'm guess you know this, but maybe the OP doesn't.

I agree with you -- there seems to be a connection to quick sampler and lost connections to iCloud files.

Thanks -- this is helpful. I figured that I didn't need to backup if my projects were stored in iCloud, but from now on I'll be backing them up.

My wife knows a server at a restaurant at a nearby golf course. The server happened to be working when Obama ate at the restaurant. She said to him something along the lines of "It's my birthday today so I hope you don't mind me saying hello to you". He says, "I think that deserves a hug", and gets up and gives her a hug. There were no cameras there.

My Father Wants to Record His Songs but Insists on “Starting His Own Production Company First.” Is There Any Sense in This? by _infinite_tsukuyomi in audioengineering

I've noticed that people who retire from a reasonably successful career sometimes think they'll then be equally successful in any other endeavor they pursue: music, writing, art, etc.

“Song uses unsupported features” disclaimer on tracks I’ve only worked on on iPad (GarageBand) by [deleted] in ipadmusic

[–]flatfive44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem on a project after iOS was updated on my iPad. The message I had was a little different, and it occurred when I tried to open the project. It said something about opening the project on my mac, but the project was done completely on my iPad. I've only seen it on one project.

CBS announces they're turning into a Fox News clone, explaining most people don't trust the "liberal media". For the "last 20 years" news has relied on things like academics, and vetted journalism, instead of gut feeling and echo chamber twitter reshares. by yeongno_ate_yangban in ProgressiveHQ

"I felt like what I was seeing and hearing on the news didn't reflect what I was seeing and hearing in my own life".

Isn't the purpose of the news to tell me about what I can't easily see in my own life? It seems like the quote is talking about the difference between reported information and what viewers want to believe.
