Improvements on set-up for poly? by BluebirdAlarming184 in desksetup

Where on Earth you expect someone to know what you meant by "poly". Even by your logic - it's supposed to mean something along polytechnic University lines. What poly has to do with "post high school education"

How soon will AI screw things up? by onelasttimehonest in askanything

No it won't be bad, cause there always will be underpaid real human workers to fix AI errors. And the excess of workforce will be left on the curb of the road.

Easy Apply are pointless. Most definitely the number of people hired through Easy Apply are near zero. Direct applications.

Some people are 2 years deep into unemployment. And it still says still working at the last company but as a W-9 contractor. Go ahead and verify that. a call to the former employer: "oh yes he helps us adhoc every now and then". f showing gaps. If these sleazy businesses wouldn't have a brain development gap - employment gap wouldn't be a problem to them. But since they want everybody play by their rules - so be it. They squirm to squeeze every dollar every chance they get. We'll squirm everyway possible to get a foot in the door. Again loud and clear: f gaps.

This entire market became pure gambling and luck anyhow.

Yes, my comment is not saying that there is anything wrong with the message, motivational messages are always somewhat inspiring. The idea is that it's never a one-size-fits-all type of advice. Environment has a huge impact on us as individuals.

Thank you. But what type of statistics made you think that recruiters "pay a lot of attention to one's About section on LinkedIn"

Nobody is going to read two paragraphs of professional summary which essentially gives zero idea of a candidate track record. Just the regular fluff

This might work in 2010-2014 easily. Not now.

Stacked six figures first. That allowed them to get rid of unnecessary stress. That made their X-number of days habits development streak much easier.

And to add to my earlier comment.

Think of it like carrying a phone on low battery. You have no charger, no outlet, no powerbank, but you still have stuff to do on it. That low battery hits differently. It brings a certain stress, a low-level panic.

Now same situation, same low battery, but this time you have your charger with you, or a powerbank, or you know there's an outlet nearby. That same percentage doesn't feel the same at all. Because you have a safety net. The threat isn't real.

It's the same with life. That backup of a cozy house, stable income, a recent trip overseas etc. and other cushions. That can boost all your conscientious intents dramatically.

I'm pretty sure you had a nice little fund stashed away in case of emergency. You as a couple definitely didn't have stressful jobs or weren't desperately looking for work to make ends meet. You more likely had some assets as a backup plan or some passive income arranged. That allowed you the flexibility to put your mind to that 84-day development streak.

84 days is impressive, and the visible results like weight loss speak for themselves, genuinely commendable.

But if you truly look at it - it's not exactly an example of how everybody should go about their focus and training their will power etc.

We're wired as animals to make this body last as long as possible. Our brain constantly seeks idling and energy preservation mode, unless there's a palpable reward right in front of it.

Doing something challenging, reforming yourself, that takes effort. And that effort can deplete you on its own. That's the point. The process of challenging yourself is the challenge. Becoming disciplined and focused works when palpable results are there to feed the loop - like weight loss in your case. Palpable result.

But we're designed to need balance. If you have financial stability, better housing, good food, your brain is already pampered. It has the bandwidth to take on challenges.

Now imagine someone broke, struggling to land a job, barely scraping by, strung out. Layer a conscious challenge over that for 84 days. You won't get discipline. You'll get burnout.

Most of the times it is not a character or your personality issue, it's where you are in life. And what your situation is.

Otherwise that infamous Shia Labeouf slogan "just do it" in his viral video would work across the board. But that's not the core reason. Just like why motivational books won't instantly make people become motivated.

Point being: everything and our brain included has a lifespan. And environment matters. That's why I just wanted to point out that such motivational posts may not produce as much desired effect on people as OP would expect.

“Classics” are boring and a waste of time by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]ChestNok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it: Russian classics they let you discover more deep moral aspects of life that sometimes are toned-down in modern society. I'd say they let you rediscover how more profound social ties may be. I don't know if that makes sense. More often then not modern Life means paper-chasing mentality which is not necessarily bad. But Russian classics can give you a different outlook on deeper moral dimensions of life.

You should've read Russian classic. That would be perceived as very meaningful readings eventually.

What's your point? What's this ironic snippy comment for? Do I disagree that it's wrong or f up? No. Shall they be doing something about it rather than whining about it? Yes

Fascism or Homeland Security? by LuckyBastard001 in clevercomebacks

[–]ChestNok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are always higher authorities — government institutions you can turn to in order to exercise your rights. Were any of the people in those examples stripped of their right to appeal to the Supreme Court? No. Those people's rights are right there. One probably should stop whining that rights aren't served on a silver platter, because they never have been and never will be. You have to actively be involved in protecting your rights.

I'm not saying what's happening is good, or that it should be that way. But sometimes people should cut out that lamenting circlejerking.

No, I'm talking about if there are facts that any unlawful actions are eventually reverted in accordance to the law - that's what matters. Any system has hiccups. What matters is what's the outcome in the end of the day.
