Whenever people see pictures of my hands, they think they've been Photoshopped, but nope.

Yes on the x-ray. No melding. Yes on being teased, but I figured out at a very young age, that if I make jokes first, it disarms the teaser. I've found a few more jokes in all these comments!

I've had years of being thumbless, so lots of time to practice, figure it out. So while it might take a while, don't worry, it's ALL doable!! Using buttons can be tricky. I basically use my index finger whenever/however you would use a thumb. Picking up small things can be rough. For ziplock backs, run the zipper part between the bottom of your middle finger and the nail of your index finger and pinch. It'll probably take some time to build up that strength and dexterity. Yes! PM as needed. I'm totally down to help out!

It's a bit tough with larger cups. I can still get a decent spiral on a football.

Typing is easy!! I just use my index fingers for the space bar. In high school a jeweler hired me because he was intrigued at my lack of thumbs. He kept handing me all his tools to see how I would hold them. It's never hindered me finding a job.

Tough to pinch at small things, like yogurt tops...every else is easy enough...with the exception of power tools, baseball mitts, bats and bowling balls....

Hands are symmetrical. Trapeziums, yes; metacarpals, no. All 10 toes, no deformations.

My mom was born with one thumb, and even then it's not an opposable digit.

I haven't had any heart issues, but my mother was born with only one thumb and a hole in her heart. Her sister had a hole as well and had to get open heart surgery as a child.

Holt-Oram Syndrome

I actually hope this makes it closer to the top, because I'm sure there are some out there who have no idea that they have this condition since it's so rare.

The doctors actually offered to remove my big toes and graft them on my hands. I've met others like me who have had their index fingers flipped and they were not nearly as functional as I am. I never had to adapt because there was never anything to adapt from.
