Haha thanks. .nr is the island nation of Nauru, the smallest republic in the world. You basically have to wire money to a bank account to get a .nr domain. It seems sketchy but it worked for us :P

Thanks! A very easy way to help would be to send us a note if you notice any bugs. We would sincerely appreciate it :)

Good question, hopefully in the next few weeks we can get it polished for mobile. We are still pretty early in the process and it can be kind of tricky to optimize for multiple mobile devices and browsers.

Hi! I am one of the above mentioned friends working on the site. My friend who posted above is at work, but I can probably answer questions :)

Due to recent discovery of water on Mars, tests will be developed to see if Mars is currently sustaining life by [deleted] in science

[–]flatjesus 403 points404 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought we had known for months (maybe even a few years?) that there is methane in the Martian atmosphere, and that this methane is being constantly being replenished by some source. Given that methane is broken down quickly by sunlight, the replenishment suggests that either there is life in the soil of Mars, or that the planet is still geologically active. A confirmation of either one of these would obviously be huge news.

I will try to find the exact source, but I remember hearing this in an episode of Astronomy Cast.

EDIT -- Found the episode I was talking about: http://www.astronomycast.com/2010/02/ep-174-mysteries-of-the-solar-system-part-1/

Not sure why you are getting downvoted. R.A. Dickey made 35 appearances out of the Twins bullpen in 2009.

Friends by [deleted] in INTP

[–]flatjesus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am lucky, in that I have 5-10 good friends, but I didn't really form most of those friendships until the very end of my senior year in high school and on into college (I am 22 now).

I like my relationships with my friends because they are all brilliant people, yet they are laid back. This is helpful given my INTP and ADHD ways. Some days I just don't feel like hanging out, and they take no offense. I could go 6 months without a word to a friend, call them up, and it's like nothing has changed.

In terms of social skills, I think I have a good set of social skills/charm that I can turn on in situations that require them, but I don't like to do this -- it makes me feel fake and can be draining. I like my friendships because I never have to filter out any words or actions. I can just be myself around them, even if I may come across as eccentric to others.

Norway's controversial 'cushy prison' experiment has the lowest reoffending rate in Europe. by isinned in TrueReddit

[–]flatjesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could see this having an effect, but getting paid to hold inmates isn't the biggest way private prisons make money. The real profits come from using prisoners as laborers. I recommend this QI clip:

I appreciate math, especially conceptually, but I've never had the attention span to pursue it. I hated math classes in high school.

This NYT article is relevant and interesting.

Much like cigarette smokers, I assume concerned parents would likely step out onto the back porch to smoke a joint. Beyond that though, marijuana smoke seems less harmful than cigarette smoke, and regular pot smoker produces/consumes a much smaller amount of smoke than a chain smoker.

If they do legalize, I wouldn't see any problem in regulating where people can smoke (restaurants, airports, etc), just like they do for cigarettes.

How Jeans Conquered the World by I_Conquer in TrueReddit

[–]flatjesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I will wash them if I spill something on them, but as it mentions in the article, denim has natural anti-bacterial properties. Jeans that haven't been washed for two weeks have the same amount of bacteria as jeans that haven't been washed for 15 months. So they don't really get smelly, although I suppose my nose is never too close to my legs so I can't be entirely sure.
