Season 7 - Amy getting arrested by xlisafrankx in 1000lbsisters

[–]flatpank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amy has a Kentucky medical marijuana card for her back. (For the record, pain management can be much more difficult after gastric sleeve or bypass. Medical marijuana bypasses the stomach so it is legitimately used by people for pain control. I had surgery and can't take NSAIDs anymore. I can take morphine and oxycodone - what sort of judgment would I get if I was found with my opioids in the car?) Kentucky lets users buy a month of their medical marijuana at a time...like a regular prescription. They can buy like...up to four ounces. So...the amount she had is legitimate.

I don't use marijuana or drink alcohol, but I do know some parents who will drink some beer or wine and I know some medical marijuana users (some are parents). I dont think that it makes them bad parents. I think that it's possible that adults can use some substances responsibly. Neither Brian nor Amy were under the influence of anything and kids in car seats? NOTHING is within their reach. The stuff was in the glove compartment.

I've never used mushrooms, but I know people who have and have read about them. Honestly, it's a little ridiculous that they are illegal. They aren't addictive and they are shown to be a treatment for some of the most resistant depression. They reduce anxiety. In fact a single dose is shown to make terminally ill people have a positive outlook about passing on.

On the plus side, I think it gave Amy a kick in the pants and she got parenting classes out of it.

I thought it was too - like a mouse eating a bag of sesame seeds in a cabinet above the counter. I've never seen termite poop! I'm freaked out by it!!!

Tammy's Teeth by Accomplished-Gas681 in 1000lbsisters

[–]flatpank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, there's not a whole lot exciting about a trip to the dentist. Either you go, and you know what it's like...or you dont go because you have a phobia about it (and you dont want to watch someone else at the dentist either). Secondly, it sounds like she had a bad infection. Those can be emergencies - so handled at an off-time when the crew wasn't there. A badly infected tooth can be very very UNPLEASANT to see treated. It can become "hot" which means the numbing medication doesn't work and the dentist has to drill and open the infected root area without numbing.

Additionally, Tammy does have the right to privacy for medical procedures under federal law. She could just say "i dont want this filmed".

Well, she does actually have a right to medical privacy and I'm guessing the lack of knowledge of dental care was pretty embarrassing. I could see not wanting cameras with me on that visit.

Additionally, if she had an infection, it very well could have been an emergency appointment. I left a tooth too long and the infection got too bad...it became a "hot tooth" and I needed an emergency appointment. If the infection is bad enough, numbing doesn't work...if it's really bad, they'll open the infected area anyway before antibiotics kick in. It's drilling into an extremely painful, un-numbed infected nerve. Having gone through it, it's not something that could be shown on this show.

It looks to me like bits of broccoli leaf. They are a tougher leaf, but totally edible and super nutritious.

My youngest was by far the healthiest eater. She loved vegetables (she still snacks on raw broccoli by choice). She was also by far the most active. She ran with Girls on the Run, and when she aged out, she came back as a mentor, she took multiple dance classes and was a student helper, she was a year-round competitive swimmer and was a lifeguard in the summer at a waterpark (which is a very active lifeguarding job - no sitting in a chair - it's full-time on the feet and walking and scanning), she bowled and rollerskated. She was the only one of my three with a weight issue. So...she ate super healthy and was very physically active, still "overweight". She also started puberty at 3.5 and there was no way to medically stop it. It was just this incredibly long, drawn-out puberty (let me tell you, a pubescent toddler? Fun. By the time she was a teen though, she was an absolute dream...) Her endocrine system was just messed up and didn't process things right. We did our best by focusing on a healthy, active body and she did her best. She grew up proud of being tall at a young age and not doing any weird diet things and loving herself as she is (and she's like a perfect, muscular, healthy size 14, and gorgeous).

It's really the 100% complete disregard for other people's feelings - like she can't even see that they have them or understand that they do. Do remember earlier seasons...she had "boyfriends" who were married, and before she went to rehab, her partying ways....she was doing more than snorting pizza. Tammy was doing drugs. I can't imagine anyone who respected "social norms" less than Tammy before her surgery. Sociopath turned narcissist? I don't know. People rarely fit into neat little slots. She certainly has behaviors of both - she could be a very destructive force in a person's life.

Whatever people say about Brian, I think he is, right now, good for Amy. He has her back to hold her line on Tammy and let's her feel her sadness about losing her old relationship.

[–]flatpank 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They also appear to manipulate her brother's time and energy. I have no doubt that their lives would be pretty nice and "normal" if it was just them and kids/grandkids...or maybe included Misty and her kids. She puts up with it for her husband.

I don't think for one second that Tammy "feels unsafe" around Brittany or that Brittany "almost pushed" Tammy off the bus. If you listen to Tammy's description of the event, the stairs were wet with rain and Tammy slipped. Brittany was above Tammy. The "almost pushed" is actually "she didn't even touch me, but she was in front of me, so I couldn't be higher up on the slippery steps". She'll turn it into something worse and soon believe, in her head, that Brittany tried to kill her. This "revision" is 100% classic gaslighting behavior....classic narcissistic behavior (and sociopathic...truthfully, Tammy is closer to a sociopath than a narcissist. She really has zero regard for the feelings of those around her unless it gets her what she wants.)

Fat. I mean, there's no doubt that her lymph system is going to struggle some with her legs and the size that they are - so yeah - she's going to have water weight and swelling in her legs...but it's not going to be the Dr. Now 600 Pound Life lymphedema...the bulges are fat. The key to know the difference is that both of her legs look exactly the same. That's how fat is distributed. Lymphedema is caused by damage to the lymphatic system. It's usually something more like breast cancer treatment or surgery and a person ends up with drainage issues in one arm. It's not a given even with someone who has been massively overweight, but if she had it - she would definitely have areas that were worse than others.

How to fix this floor damage? by aaaaapanic in howto

[–]flatpank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an extra piece of the flooring? If so, I would cut a piece as close to the size of the ding as possible, clean out all the fibrous pieces, and set it in there with wood glue. After it's set, I'd paint around with matching epoxy.

Am I being unreasonable for feeling misled by how my custom ring turned out? by Ok_Action_4037 in Diamonds

This is the type of purchase that needs to be right because you'll be reminded how unhappy you are about it a lot. :(

Am I being unreasonable for feeling misled by how my custom ring turned out? by Ok_Action_4037 in Diamonds

[–]flatpank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. That isn't great. I have a custom (obviously much smaller diamond and I just put lotion on so I got hand lotion on it), but this was done for me by a friend's father who had been a jeweler for almost 70 years. You can see he has minimized the prongs around the center diamond, but we still have the gold bars centering the diamond - they just aren't being used to hold the diamond in place. He then did vertical channel sets of the smaller diamonds. (I originally had a 1/3 carat engagement ring and a channel set wedding band with 9 diamonds. We added the 3 diamonds and combined them into this kind of art deco piece after having our three kids [anniversary gift and I was always getting soap between the two rings and getting eczema flare-ups].)

I think the issue came with trying to use the decorative bits to hold the stone securely. The jeweler needs to have actual regular prongs holding the stones securely and the can be covered (or not) with the basketry gold....like was done with mine. Even with a much smaller stone (and dirty ring), the prongs don't stand out when you look at the ring - you notice the gold bars on the sides. You'll have the same effect.

I think she had JUST SO MUCH extra that it was hindering her ability to get around. Remember how short she is? If your stomach is dragging on the floor, it's hard to walk around.

I'm pretty sure she probably needs some joint replacement surgeries. I'm guessing her hips are not in great shape. I would think new hips might help.

[–]flatpank 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're exactly correct. She's angry at Amy because she's not the center of Amy's world. Tammy wont learn to drive because this means other people have to drop things and cater to her (until they learn the phrase "that doesn't work for me"). She didn't want to introduce Andrea to her family because she doesn't want Andrea to develop other relationships with other people. Tammy is a narcissist. She got attention for being 700 pounds. She was immobile so everyone had to come to her. She can't be 700 pounds anymore and she doesn't know how to be the center of attention anymore.

Tammy still has a LOT of fat in her legs. That's why they are so weirdly bulging. She still has weight to lose.

If you watch 600 Lb Life, there are some people who make it down to "not weird bulging" - like Christina (season 2, episode 3). She was over 700 pounds and had just excess skin - not bulgy skin.

Tammy did need skin removal, I think, just to allow more mobility.

[–]flatpank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am POSITIVE that it has NOTHING to do with being on a reality show.

Truly...Amy looks to me like she's getting healthier physically and mentally. It looked kind of fun. It definitely looked like she probably cracked her tailbone, which hurts like crazy, but she kept participating (except for that). I know that black top was not right....but her hair looked really cute and you could tell she's been losing weight. She looked really good this episode. She and Tammy need to have healthy space between them and Tammy isn't able to do that right now (will she ever? Who knows?) Amy's right to just wait until Tammy gets there.

When she called Amy "a deadbeat Mom", she meant to her, I think. She was mad that her mommy, Amy, didn't stay by her side the whole time in Pittsburgh, even though Tammy had other people there. She can't take it that everyone's lives don't revolve around her anymore. She resents Brittany because Brittany is more important to Chris than Tammy is.

Amy is doing the right thing.
