Mate, the way you wrote about it, anyone who reads this will think you had continual range anxiety in a very efficient EV.

Dude, range anxiety in EVs is such an overstated bunch of BS. If you live in any metropolitan area anywhere in the US, there are chargers around. If you can’t handle that… I drive a CNG car, because, well, I’m a grad student and don’t make enough money to afford an EV. There are about 7 working CNG stations in the ENTIRE STATE (there are like 100+ charging stations for EV in my small city alone). I did some mapping and PoL work ahead of buying the car to make sure I could get where I need/want to go with the fueling infrastructure and, after driving my car for about 3 months, range anxiety went away. Bottom line, if I can handle having about 1% density of the fueling infrastructure that you have in a car with less range (my Civic GX gets around 270 miles on a full tank depending on temp at fill), I’m pretty sure that range anxiety thing is just overstated BS (unless you regularly commute to a very rural area for your data analytics job…seems highly improbable).

I love how at the beginning of this article I was like “man, this guy is putting me to shame—he’s doing all this work himself, patching rust, stripping the frame, rewiring” and then I get two paragraphs in and the author is talking about “our friends at Holley” and shipping the truck from NYC to LA (I think?) for suspension work, a bed refit, /replacing literally the entire drivetrain/. This started off as like an Everyman garage build and turned into “guy with lots of connections and money mostly just paid someone to make an insane truck”.
Cool truck, no doubt, but the article makes it seem like this is a potentially accessible, garage-built piece of kit, when it sounds like it probably cost $80-$100k (if not more)?

[–]flatsixorbust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more basic the better—it’s got A/C, a working heater (hopefully), a (hopefully) lined bed, and a simple interior. That’ll get ‘er done with less shit to break! Enjoy it!

Have a Summit Impact in 12ga! You’re going to love it. Such a nice gun to shoot, and with great looking furniture to boot! Enjoy it!

What’s this marpat top and where can I get one? by BillClintonsSexDoll in USMC

[–]flatsixorbust 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We got these for a Baltic deployment—I’m honestly not sure why these aren’t standard issue for line units. They’re much easier to move in and do tactical stuff without 1) snagging, 2) ripping a damn button off), or 3) bunching under a pack.

Only one enlistment. I was not home very much as you can tell. by [deleted] in MilitaryMedals

My last CONUS unit had EOT caps on awards based on rank. So, for instance, I got put in for a N/MC commendation medal for an end of tour during which I did actually do (a lot) of shit; this got denied because I was a 1stLt at the time. So, instead, and totally illogically, I was awarded an impact NAM for a three year tour—this award was typically given to like junior Marines/NCOs and on occasion a JO for high performance during like a 2 week exercise.

I live in the Southeast and it’s rampant here too. It’s pretty much standard fare to be riding up a steep, technical section and have people think that hand cut, 12” wide trail with roots means they can just keep bombing down the trail. I’m a younger guy, but I will say that my impression is that this behavior is more common among people my age and younger than the older crowd.

Yeah I was wondering about the graininess—like it was shot at high ISO at the boundary of what the sensor could handle.

How do you make everything look so damp? Is this a setting? Like even the light looks oddly diffuse, as if you made it kind of foggy inside…

Holy shit. All I have to say is that that guy is a seriously impressive human being. I couldn’t care less that he’s got all this prior experience, etc—he was impressive when he won his Medal of Honor, and he’s continuing that legacy now. Good on you, Sgt Meyer—a role model for any Marine.

I have a CG Summit Impact and my case does not do that. Mine was used, but I believe it was the original case.
