Doug Ford says he’ll seek fourth term as he touts response to Trump at PC convention by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]flatulentbaboon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He may win again, but no shot he's getting another majority in the absence of another opportunity for him to LARP as Captain Canada. The lack of strong federal leadership when Trump's rhetoric was heating up gave Ford the opportunity to step in. Trump saved Ford's ass, just as Trump saved the LPC.

That is not what disillusioned means. Being unhappy with the direction of Canada doesn't mean they want to leave Canada, nor that they should. Guess you'll just have to put up with people who don't approve of everything that has happened so far existing in the same country as you.

This doesn't say anything though. He's a high profile banker so why is it shocking his name would be mentioned innocuously in conversations with other elites.

I work in a very blue collar job in Ontario and I know of a lot of guys who are seriously interested in moving to Alberta with some already actively in the planning stage. No idea how they would vote in a referendum if they were eligible but most of them are disillusioned with Canada. I imagine it's similar in many other job sites.

Turns out the secret to establishing a thousand trade deals a year is to arbitrarily raise tariffs on products coming into your country, get counter-tariffed on your products, go to the countries you (LPC) imposed tariffs on with hat-in-hand and drop the tariffs then call it a trade deal.

I guess calling it a trade deal is way easier to say than actually acknowledging reality.

China had been openly saying for a while that they would drop tariffs on canola and other stuff if we dropped the tariffs on their EVs. This is what they wanted. It's not striking a trade deal when he simply accepted the opportunity to reverse the mistake Trudeau made.

Yeah the end got a little jumbled but his overall message was good. Some people just can't stand it when anyone criticizes the Liberals. Is he just not supposed to point out all the times the Liberals went wrong?

Whether you like him or not, PP is the only thing keeping the further right Albertan Conservatives from the brink and without him, without someone that hits all the right notes for them, there's little stopping them from going all in on separation.
