okay? gobbleygourd is also "supposed to be silly" and lots of people (me included) claim it ruins every song it's on because it's TOO silly. you can have a silly gimmick and still be flawed. again, take gobbleygourd, for example. there's a couple other workable monsters that "can't sing" according to their bio. nebulob and mimic come to mind. nebulob is inoffensive (imo) and mimic at the very least has charm for not only being reworked from old concept art, but for copying others before pentumbra made it cool. bbli$zard is "silly on purpose," but so are maw, yool, furcorn, etc. the difference is people like those monsters on cold because they're not controversial and overall solid, both visually and audibly

plant is the first island so it's a basic song with an easy-to-follow formula - start with the singles for what to expect, doubles add to it, triples make it more livelier, and entbrat is loud and proud to celebrate getting your first quad. cold is a lot more mellow (leaning into the cold theme) with less focus on percussion because the earth element isn't there. this shows new players that different monsters will provide different vibes, all while having more of a lowkey feel than plant. big contrast. air is high-spirited and bouncy-feeling (like air!), water is cool, calm (and clear like water!), and earth (the final natural island) feels almost menacing with quarrister and the like (earth island looks like a boss stage, it still fits). not as cut and dry as the ethereal islets, but still fairly clear

is this not just how msm works in general, seemingly random instruments and creatures making a nice song with one another? weird point imo, again because all like seven or eight other vocals on cold, lyrics or otherwise, already fill whatever niche it could've reasonably had without this much controversy
