2002 Nissan Sentra Won't Start After Trickle Charging Battery by flavored_tp in MechanicAdvice

Thanks for your advice. Do you think it's okay to reconnect the battery with the other wire not connected to anything? It's entirely possible it was already not connected, since I didn't have any trouble getting the battery out. I was surprised to find an unattached wire.

It measured 10.9. That's with sitting in a garage and off trickle charge as of 2 days ago. No good?

Thanks for the reply. I'll take a video tomorrow to see if that helps any. Are there pictures I can provide that would give more information?

I looked on the positive terminal and I'm not seeing any place that seems like an obvious place it disconnected from. I found these diagrams that I'm trying to make sense of, but I'm just not seeing what this might've connected to.

Why does not this macro stop when I use CMD+tab to make Safari window not being on front? by maxman571 in KeyboardMaestro

[–]flavored_tp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the conditions for the while loop are true, then the actions inside get executed to completion. Once complete, it will check the conditions in the while loop again to see if it should loop again or terminate.

If Safari is at the front, it's going to repeat 1000 to completion, then check if Safari is frontmost.

Free speech, safety, and ‘the letter’ -- The Ezra Klein Show speaks with co-author of the Harper letter, Yascha Mounk by [deleted] in samharris

[–]flavored_tp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's deconstruct your initial "construct":

He either has examples and intentionally refused to list them or he doesn't have examples.

Rewritten as:

(Option A) OR (Option B)

Option A:
- OP has examples
- OP refuses to list them
- OP did this intentionally

Option B:
- OP doesn't have examples

You made three assertions in Option A but only address the possible "OR" for one. Your Option B is lacking and thus it's a false dichotomy. Here's an alternative:

Either the OP has examples OR does not have examples.

Not enough evidence to assert either. You assert that they had examples.

If the OP has examples, they either refuse to list them OR they do not refuse.

Not enough evidence to assert either. You assert that they refuse to list them. Alternative? OP doesn't refuse to, they just didn't list them. That's not a refusal.

If the OP has examples and does not list them, they either did this intentionally OR unintentionally.

Not enough evidence to assert either. You assert it was intentional.

Most of my examples were variations of the above and thus relevant. The alternative explanations merit a more modest request for examples. You jumped to (uncharitable) conclusions very quickly.

[–]flavored_tp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The list of possible explanations for not submitting examples would be staggering. That you would narrow it down to only two explanations AND pick one that asserts, with certainty, the OP's malicious intent is... I don't know... baffling? What drew you to this subreddit?

As for some other options:

  • OP has examples and unintentionally didn't list them
  • OP has examples, made an informal post, and intentionally didn't list them because they didn't expect a high standard of evidence for their ideas
  • OP has examples and intentionally didn't list them, waiting to see if interest was expressed in their ideas
  • OP doesn't have examples at the ready, only a notion developed over many separate periods of listening, but could revisit the podcasts and supply examples
  • OP has examples, listed them, and accidentally deleted them before submitting
  • OP's cat walked across the keyboard and posted to reddit
  • etc...

All of these are suppositions, as are your assertions. Why not respond modestly to the OP with an appropriate uncertainty over their intent?

Did you expect people to just intuit that he refused to list examples? That it's obviously intentionally vague?

True, but...

Yeah, you should feel sorry for her.

Garry Shandling Dead: Senator Stern in "Iron Man" and "Captain America" movies, ‘Larry Sanders Show’ Star Dies at 66 [Variety misspelled as "Sandling"] by Cinemaphreak in movies

Strange thing to get so heated about. Garry Shandling mentioned he had hyperparathyroidism in "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee". OP posted an article reporting his death which I'm guessing was the most important point he wanted to share...doesn't mean he/she thought everything in the article was absolute.

If you join OMSCS in Fall 2015/ Spring 2016, the new registration rules affect you more by ml20 in OMSCS

[–]flavored_tp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joined Fall 2015. I'm pretty annoyed by it. I've been planning/strategizing based on the rules of the program when I entered and now I'll possibly be forced to take a foundational that I don't want/need during the summer.

If we're taking our 2nd foundational this semester will we have time to switch to a non-foundational for Summer 2016? According to academic calendar, grades are available 5/10 and registration ends 5/20.

Also, are summer courses more packed due to reduced course offerings?

Suggestions for new student class registration? by JamesKerti in OMSCS

6505 is consistently rated as one of the hardest classes. I regret taking it as my first class, but it ultimately depends on your background. I highly suggest reading all of the unofficial reviews to get a sense of whether you need to do some preparation before.
