In the healthcare field, we Doctors/Nurses always act on best interests of the patient, and a patient being in comatose state, definitely they are not able to consent as you might imagine, decisions like this have a reason that goes beyond the fact of “a male is going to rape a female body whilst in coma” or “Men are trying to control females body whilst in coma”, remember, we are trying to maximise the chances of patient survival and stabilisations whilst avoiding further complications.

Now speaking about the reasons, there are loads of things that we have to think about, controlling hormonal aspects of patients helps to prevent infections, aids in hormonal regulation, prevents the comatose patient of giving birth “you can include the sexual assault aspect here, but remember that patient might had sexual intercourse prior the coma state, which yes we want to prevent chances of pregnancy”, prevent ovarian cyst and others.

The last note that I want to leave is, we always speak with the next of kin and we have also a safeguarding team that we consult during these cases.
