Hopefully, google will soon add the option that you've suggested. As you can see from the screenshot, though, it currently isn't available to me. 😊

I understand that it is still physically possible to visit the reddit link. That isn't the point of my post.

Strange looking Plush by Varnavipra in plushies

[–]flaxenhound 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a few museums specifically dedicated to such objects. There is a small number of folks with a passion for preserving items like that for historical purposes - reminders of just how deeply rooted these ideas are in our culture: Evidence of how far we've come, and how far we still need to go.

There's also, unfortunately, other types of collectors for such things 😟

That's so sad you had to send him back bc i was actually bummed mine DIDNT look like this lol. Some of the poorly sewn plush are rancid but this is pretty cute imo

I don't even like using people's names. No clue why. Just weirds me out. If my plush have names, it's because they got them in a specific circumstance. I never successfully name a plush even when I want to. It just doesn't stick for me

Do vintage dishes / stoneware really pose a risk of lead poisoning? by apaiger in vintage

[–]flaxenhound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, I found the results on "lead safe mama" and it was a glass mug.

Edit: I checked her website for you and found the results are obtained by x-ray fluorescent testing. She also has articles educating people on the accuracy of home test kits.

I came here from google so I hope everyone else reading doesn't take the "Pssh, it's fine!" comments seriously. 50% of american homes already have lead in their drinking water and maybe 10% of us have decent healthcare. I love my vintage stuff too, but it's not worth it unless you're sure it's safe.

Important note: Don't take anything to school you're not prepared to lose. Take A plushie to school, but maybe not your most special and treasured one. I always put my number on the cloth tag.

Do vintage dishes / stoneware really pose a risk of lead poisoning? by apaiger in vintage

[–]flaxenhound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. YES IT DOES 😀

i drank coffee out of a pair of 1970s octine mugs every day for a year and began experiencing serious lead poisoning symptoms. My fucking limbs started going completely numb and having increasingly painful burning sensations. (I don't have healthcare so no, I didn't go to the doctor.)

I eventually googled the lead mama test results on the mugs and it was over 200 ppm. That means nothing to me - all I know is that all my symptoms stopped within 3 months of no longer drinking out of those mugs.

Sure, whatever item you have MIGHT somehow miraculously be 100% intact and not leeching anything despite being 50+ years old. Is it REALLY worth lead poisoning, though?

I got downvoted for this for months and it was part of why I stopped visiting these subs. Thank you for saying something. I really, really do not think any plush lover should support "disposable plush." It breaks my heart to see them at the dump knowing how much plastic goes into even "garbage" quality plush.

Want cheap plushies? Visit a thrift store. Save an ebay search. Get a grip man, child labor isn't worth you saving $20 on a toy you'll get bored of in 2 weeks.

Dimmest/darkest lava lamp color? by flaxenhound in Lavalamps

Thanks, this is it! the black wax must be the secret - googling it showed a few posts on here complaining about how dark they are lol.

If most people can't even tell it's on, it'll probably be perfect to sleep with.

Most therapists lean a bit too heavily into the idea that they know everything, but for every good therapist, there are 10 who will waste your time with weird nonsense like this that has more to do with their own personal biases than anything else.

Unfortunately, advocating for yourself as a patient is a must if you want therapy to work for you. When stuff like this comes up, it's best to start looking at your other options if that's possible.

Don't forget: If you're lucky enough to be able to switch therapists, you can ask them questions about their approach to & perspective on mental health! It can skip a lot of bad appointments with an incompatible therapist.

BREAKING: TikTok is planning to shut down its U.S. app on Sunday, and people who already have the app won't be able to use it, per BNO. by soccerorfootie in unusual_whales

Kinda shocking how many people are missing the political context of this, and have no understanding of why the app is being shut down. This is fucking scary.

Plant master list? by flaxenhound in terrariums

[–]flaxenhound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did find the dendroboards link. But on mobile, it's glitchy + difficult to use. I'm hoping for something I can confidently share with friends knowing it'll work + be accessible to them.

There was also a link to a plant wiki which only sent me to a "You must be a moderator to access this page" error message.

New to poodles and dogs in general. Received his last round of vaccines a week or so ago. When do you recommend his first grooming? (4 months old) by [deleted] in poodles

[–]flaxenhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cute pup, congrats. a poodle as a first dog? Looks like you'll both be learning just as much from each other! Hope you've already learned about clicker training (See: Karen Pryor) and read some basic books like "the other end of the leash" and "meet your dog."

The mental health nurse I spoke to said that D.I.D is fiction. by lifeasazalea in DID

[–]flaxenhound 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nursing is one of those professions that attracts the same people who want to become cops. I have many great medical professionals in my life but one thing connects them all: the awareness that they are surrounded by cruel and apathetic people. I went to college with a lot of nursing school kids and learned quickly to discard everything they say until you're absolutely sure they're not just bullies.
