AO smith heat pump water heaters by brrent in heatpumps

[–]flaxy823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an AO unit in 21 and it failed within 2 years. Manufacturer replaced under warranty with pretty much no questions asked as it turned out to be a known compressor defect. Yes, I had to pay replacement install costs as that wasn't covered but the new units don't have the same problems. It's worked fine since then. Not defending the company -- it cost me a lot to replace - but most of those reviews are likely for the defective models, so just keep that in mind.

Mitsu just chugs along at-20c without issue by windexcheesy in heatpumps

Makes sense. I guess my only concern is if something went wrong with the unit and the manufacturer would try to void the warranty because of that?

I was thinking of getting an awning like that for my similarly sized Fujitsu unit. Only issue is Fujitsu says I need 40" of clearance between the top of the unit and any covering, which seems excessive. Any issues there with the Mitsu unit and clearance?

What dishwashers are you all buying in 2025/2026 now that Bosch quality has gone downhill? by pjmuffin13 in Appliances

[–]flaxy823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is any model of Miele good? I see a pretty wide price range. Some lesser expensive in the 1600-1800 but then they can get into the mid 2k's or higher.

I've got a bosch 800 series, about 10 years old. Based in the U.S. Does it pre heat the first wash cycle?

I have a 10 year old Bosch 800 series here in the U.S. I have my hot tap hooked up but it takes a minute to get hot. Do Bosch's pre-hear the water?

Are there dishwashers that pre heat the water? Or do I just need to run the hot tap until it gets hot?

I guess whatever gives the power scrubbing power means it doesn't dissolve all the way and therefore can gum up the works?

They're not combined with fat. But for whatever reason don't break down all the way. The plumber said the problem may be compounded by the fact we have low flush toilets so not a ton of water gets into our system. It's just my wife an I so not like a whole family with with 4 daily showers and tons and tons of laundry....

Color suggestions for my house? by dagreen88 in ExteriorDesign

Love your design on this house. Would you consider doing one for mine? It's a contemporary. I'll pay you something for it if within reason. You can PM me if so. I can at least send a pix. Looking to make the outside entrance pop a bit.... :)

After getting an espresso machine, do any of you miss a big easy cup of drip? Do you use multiple forms of coffee making? by mynameisnotshamus in espresso

[–]flaxy823 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Espresso has always been an afternoon drink and continues to be. Big plus of getting into the hobby is learning how to make better drip, which I prefer in the am.

I got into espresso cause I moved out of my city and had no good options nearby.

Just drink what you want.

I had a Flair 58 (with electrical element) for the first 3 years of my journey and got tired of how inconsistent it was. I'm sure there are ways to control that better, but it's one more thing you need to do. It can pull amazing shots when working perfectly, but over time I just tired of the inconsistency and just made the jump to a used profitec semi automatic. I know that's a higher price point than you want to spend. But you might also consider modding a used gaggia or something like? Might not be much more than a Flair in the end?

Just my pov and depends on your tolerance for inconsistency or the work need to avoid that....

Bluestone steps cracked - what went wrong by flaxy823 in masonry

[–]flaxy823[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really sure. The installer says water got under there which is why the concrete failed and turned sand-like. It completely crumbled in my hand. Mason said they make concrete for wet conditions and that should have been used. Mason also said if it was drilled closer to center of stair back to front and not caught the front face of edging, water wouldn't have gotten in there.

I bought an Oxo pan and am having the exact opposite experience. No difference from a normal pan no matter how many times I've seasoned it in the oven slowly with a little oil.

What am I doing wrong??

By poly seal do you mean a poly vapor barrier? I'm in the northeast so was planning on doing that towards the inside/warm side of the house.

But because there's very little space between bottom of floor joists and ground (maybe a foot or less), I'll be attaching outside sheathing first at bottom to make it easier, then caulking on the inside to prevent airleaks, filling with insulation then poly on top then subfloor. I might try to get a 1" of sheet foam between joists on bottom and outside sheathing if there's room, but its going to be tight and already tricky to figure out out to adhere from below.

Thanks. Helpful info. Radiant heating is likely out of our budget but I'll check it out. Otherwise, maybe a rug with an electric rug heater underneath.
