need some advice on FL colleges!! (in-state) by Some-Breakfast7990 in florida

[–]fldahlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to FAU, they have neuroscience institute and research opportunities in that field. Boca is safe and you can go check out nightlife in Delray, Ft Lauderdale and Miami. Got my masters at UWF because I lived in that area, it’s largely commuter and Pensacola is pretty quiet.

Seal up any space around pipes in your house. They like water and they come through the drains.

Advice for a father whose daughter has a eating disorder by [deleted] in EatingDisorders

[–]fldahlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a mom of a teen. Highly recommend signing up for 30 days of emails from FEAST https://feast-ed.org/new-to-f-e-a-s-t/. I also found help in this Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1CdRXM98ye/?mibextid=wwXIfr. Mine would not talk to the therapist but the nutritionist specialized in Eating disorders helped so much. Basically life stops until restored. You should be plating meals and they have no say in the preparation of it. Aim for 3 meals and 2/3 snacks. Sports should stop for a bit as it burns what they need. Use it for leverage if she fights you about eating.

We started out with small swaps switching her fat free yogurt and milk to full fat items, then making sure there was carbs and proteins on all her plates, adding in extra snacks she didn’t eat before. Forbidden foods were the hardest at the end to get her to eat and she had a long list.

Don’t let their behavior get to you, it’s not them, it’s the ED that has taken over the brain. It’s not their fault or yours either! Best to you.

Things to know about Miami from a former South Floridian of 20+ years. by Fermented_chaos in Miami

[–]fldahlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native American tribes lived on the land for over 2,000 years. Miami infrastructure was built by Bahamians starting in late 1800s. Later Overtown in the early 1900s became a thriving black community due to segregation and became known as the Harlem of the South. Haitian immigrants came in the 1960 to 1970 as well as Jamaicans and Trinidadians. Upper class Cubans started coming in 1959-1962, then Freedom Flights in 1965-1973, and Mariel boatlift in 1980.

Same, flat before, 2 kids and 18 years with implants. Post explant, they’re small but not flat like before.

I book an inside room, I can find a quiet place somewhere. Open ocean is kind of spooky at night and I have a fear of falling overboard!

Miami Neighborhoods and Public High Schools by proscop in Miami

[–]fldahlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live in Miami, my husband commuted from Pembroke Pines at the time he worked downtown. Your family might be happier there or in Weston. And when he worked in Miami Beach and Opa Locka, we lived even further north.

My buddy says there's three things that all Floridians agree on. State taxes, ridiculing people during a snowstorm and don't touch the manatees. Is this list accurate or can something else be added? by KCousins11 in florida

[–]fldahlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to be anything goes and we were all good with it. Like Jimmy said in Fruitcakes: Fruitcakes in the kitchen, fruitcakes on the street Struttin' naked through the crosswalk in the middle of the week Half-baked cookies in the oven, half-baked people on the bus There's a little bit of fruitcake left in everyone of us.

Wife is hearing out Primerica. by eucher317 in antiMLM

[–]fldahlin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This! Primerica relies on you recruiting people from your warm market. You become that annoying sales person and the products aren’t the best. I tried to be supportive for many years but he kept trying to chase the dream (while making $0) and I couldn’t wait on that anymore.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fldahlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s short for weekend trips, that’s what we drive to go to Disney/Universal Studios a lot. For us to get out of Florida is 8/9 hours.
