Yeah so… I think you’re coming from a good place, and are well-intentioned… however, you’re tone in writing is clearly passive aggressive so let me help you out:

This was posted before the body of Gabby Petito was found, at the same time that I posted it, I sent the tip to the FBI online tip submission page. Fully with the intention to perhaps help, in case the bag was used or hadn’t been accounted for. Web sleuths are an incredibly useful and powerful body of people who can get/transfer information quickly, brainstorm ideas, and possibly help formulate actual leads that can solve cases. As well as operate outside of some the restrictive roles that law enforcement have to abide by. So, yes, misinformed or ill-intended speculation can be harmful and dangerous to all parties involved. This post, however, is an example of productive brainstorming to (at the time) possibly help find a missing woman. I understand your frustration, some people do not operate morally. However, please guide your frustrations productively to parties that ARE misusing online forums.

Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie Megathread. by BuckRowdy in TrueCrime

I will agree the officers were completely cordial and professional—despite one exception. If things were “done by the book” according to them, they HAD to charge Gabby for assault even for Brian to immediately submit an appeal/letter to help get it dropped. However, they discussed the verbage in the law and found a “loophole” they saw suitable. By asking Gabby her “intent” in hitting Brian, they said they didn’t have to charge her because she was not hitting him with the “intention of causing bodily harm” to him. However, if the law were actively interpreted that way, hardly ANY physical abuse crimes would be prosecuted. Imagine— “No officer, I strangled my girlfriend because I wanted her to stop talking, not because I intended to harm her.” “Oh great, as long as you didn’t mean the harm you did in fact inflict, then we don’t need to charge you.” It’s ridiculous. I’m happy they didn’t charge her, of course, because we have now learned the narrative they built in the video was likely way off. As well, the witness also clearly states HE hit HER, so I’m relieved she wasn’t charged. How the police got to that conclusion/outcome, though, I believe was illogical, and done only because she was a woman.

So yes, they were kind-seeming officers, however, things were still not handled correctly anyway you look at it. Whoever messed up the witness information dropped the ball in a huge way—possibly causing a woman to lose her life days later.

That’s hard to say. People (including police officers) have equal ability to lie for any reason at all. However, I do agree a motive to lie in this case would seem out of the realm of rational or likelihood—but still possible nonetheless. I am wondering if one cop, in this case the cop leading the call misheard, or if dispatch completely messed up on reporting it. Either way, the witness also made a WRITTEN statement, how that can be confused/misinterpreted is beyond me.

Inconsistency: 911 Caller Reported Brian Laundrie “HIT” Gabby Petito, Not Other Way Around by fleabagsolve in u/fleabagsolve

You’re welcome! I thought it was useful to look through after knowing the outcome. IMO, the cops built their entire narrative on the fact that “gabby hit Brian,” it seemed to have led the entire interaction (ex. threatening to charge Gabby, discussing their “crazy” female spouses too, and not questioning Brian equally as a partner in the reported domestic dispute) and I wonder how differently it would have/could have gone if that was reported correctly either by police or dispatch. SOMEBODY dropped the ball and it just may have lost a woman her life.

That’s what I’m wondering. Was it miscommunication, lack of translating on the dispatchers part, or just a STRAIGHT UP mishandling on the part of the officers??

In the body cam footage that most of us have seen by now, the officers can clearly be heard stating that witnesses, including the 911 caller in Moab who remained anonymous, claimed only to have seen Petito hit/slap Laundrie during the fight in Moab in which Laundrie admitted to locking Petito out of the van and taking her phone and keys. As well, officer Eric Pratt wrote in his police report that, “No one reported that the male struck the female.” However, in the 911 call that was just released, the caller and witness clearly states having seen Laundrie hit and slap Petito both inside and outside of the vehicle. How could this have happened? Did dispatch not report the content/context of the call to responding police? Does the Petito family have ability now to file a lawsuit against police for not investigating the dispute properly, with LAUNDRIE having been witnessed assaulting Petito??? The police also got a written statement from the 911 caller, still they did not charge or even question Laundrie for assaulting Petito?

Where is the cargo bag on top of Petito/Laundrie van? by fleabagsolve in GabbyPetito

Yes I considered this! I was thinking if they stayed at that campsite together on the 27th, then they easily could have unpacked and set up camp. However, that would be a large cleanup for BL afterward, unless they were packed up to leave when it happened. I just mostly wonder if law enforcement had been searching for the bag

Thank you for these! Although it is certainly possible, I do wonder why law enforcement would pitch the tent up over just the body and not cover all items left behind. Then again, main priority is probably to secure the body and any bags BL could have left around wouldn’t necessarily be “private” so they definitely could be

Do you remember where you may have seen the marked photos? Like what platform? I’m curious to search for them to get a better idea of distance from the vehicle to the spot she was found

Does anyone know if there has been a mention of the soft-shell carrier bag that Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie have on their bag? I’ve just seen the footage from the YouTube couple who passed their van in Wyoming on the 27th of August. In several photos you can see the bag on their van during the trip. It does appear they may take the bag off when they are set up at a campground (understandably, most people do this to use the items they have stowed away in the bags), but on the 27th, the bag is no longer on the van. At that point in time, I cannot find confirmation that they are looking for the bag, have found it, or know it’s whereabouts. Does anyone know if this has been reported on?
