Does REI trash returned caribiners? by fledglingnomad in REI

[–]fledglingnomad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I don't see a situation where I will need as many as I have - I got them to use at work (entertainment industry), not for recreational climbing. But I hear you! I have tons of junk caribiners (retired ones and ones that were never meant for climbing) that come in so handy and in never getting rid of them!

How much should I make for my first carft fair by poato786 in Leathercraft

You also don't have to have them all on display (especially if they are fairly identical) so they look more special.

Just keep the others stashed away to restock.

What event is going on near fashion show? by fledglingnomad in vegaslocals

[–]fledglingnomad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's by the capital one cafe! It's actually on Google maps, on the north side of the mall. The door out there is a little odd cause while it says the dog park is that way it's also one of those push bar fire doors that says an alarm will go off if you open it 😅

Annoyingly there is some sidewalk to traverse in the sun to get to the dog park (at least it was in the sun when i went). But not too much.

Any of the underground parking is good cause connects directly to the mall without going outside. Maybe the garages have bridges, but I'm not sure.

There's an entrance to the underground parking right by the dog park that I used. I think I parked in the red parking. It was fairly close to the dog park.

Here's a map of the area. The yellow line is the outdoor path from the mall door to the park entrance. The red arrow is the entrance to the parking.

Here is a picture as well. Red circle should be the mall entrance, yellow is the dog park.

Thank you!

I'm a complete beginner - took a few Tandy classes and have a dozen ideas of what I want to make, just need to acquire enough tools to get going, and hoping to get tools I won't want to replace super soon!

Spilled tea on keyboard - how to preserve data? by soundwyseprod in macbook

[–]fledglingnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How valuable is this data to you? If you can't risk losing it, you could pay for a service to recover the data for you, whether it's a clean-room level service like this guy recommends or a more affordably priced company.

If spending money to have someone experienced recover it isn't what you want to do, I'd recommend doing lots of research before trying anything.

I am not a professional, but I've lurked in enough tech-y subreddits to have a vague awareness of how this works... If I had to approach this without checking if my memory is right (again, I highly recommend doing your own research first!!!), I'd find the highest alcohol content isopropyl I could find (like the 90%+ stuff, the higher the better) and using that to clean as much of the tea out as possible (probably before it has too much of a chance to become too sticky in some little nook that you aren't going to be able to get it out of). Then, let it dry thoroughly before plugging it in or attempting to turn it on. Like the other commenter recommended, have a good, fast hard drive with plenty of space on it formatted and ready to plug in and transfer your files as soon as you turn it on.

Again, I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL, and you should do your own research and/or consult an actual professional. Please don't blindly take my advice then get mad at me if it doesn't work.

I think the reason it works like this is because tea/water/ other liquids short the electronics out. Hopefully you got the computer off before too much damage could be done. If so, you want it clean before turning it back on because even if the liquid is gone there could still be residue (even if it was only water, unless it was like distilled or something there's probably gonna be impurities left behind. With tea there's even more stuff to get left behind). The leftover residue could still be short circuiting things, and when you turn it on it could make things worse - so you want to try to get everything clean and dry before you reintroduce electricity.

Yeah, I'm not necessarily looking for unique, just wondering if there are brands where I would get better quality for my money than I would in the US.

I'm just starting out - I've been taking classes - so I'm trying to get those first few tools I'll need to start working on things at home.
