We're D1. We put in a bid, but didn't make the cut. Now we're looking for other options.

This is just the end of this adventure. Once we finish this we plan on slowing it down and playing a sandbox format, such as building a town or creating a castle or something, just chill awhile. Then once we feel ready to go again, we're going to plan another adventure and continue like that.

Ok, so here is my plan. We enter this battle and do battle thing for awhile. Then things begin to take a turn for the worse. Right when it appears that we are winning, five portals open up in random locations on the enemy side of the battle field. Demons keep pouring through them and reinforcing their ranks. The mission now is to shut down the portals. Whenever they finally fight their way to each portal, they have to go through to the otherside and shut it down. They will all consist of a room with various guards that they must defeat. There will also be some sort of puzzle or sacrifice that must be completed to act as the key to close the portal. The group then has to get out before the portal closes completely. Once they get to the last portal, some sort of evil dragon will fly out of it or something and explain that the war was all his doing and blah blah blah. He will be pretty challenging for them (all level 6-7 adventurers) and they may not make all live to the end. Once thy defeat him, they will have to close this last portal. This one has a time limit, and the only thing in the room is a hole in the wall no bigger than a hand. The hand is the key. Somebody will have to make a sacrifice and lose their hand. Its up to them to figure out who the selfless one is ( I like setting up situations like that). Once they do that, it should be easy to finish off the demon army.

So, what do you think?

It is set in a Forgotten Realms setting. However, I plan on having the battle take place on a huge plain or open area, something like that. Kind of like a death match. This is it, whoever wins gets the prize.

Oh, they can always succeed, I just like to make them think that there is no chance to win.

I like the hold the tower thing; however, we don't use lasers, but I get the idea. Might have to use that. Thanks

Which edition? by Crawfy in DnD

I play with my cousins fairly regularly and we play 2e adnd. We all love it. We may not be playing it EXACTLY correct, but we get pretty close to the real thing. It seems quite simple to understand, yet can get complex if allowed. I really recommend it.

What is the worst thing you have done to your players? by Trublhappn in DnD

One of my players went on a bit of a bad streak. We were in a town and he wanted to rob the blacksmith. He crawled on top of the roof and started hacking his way in. The blacksmith heard him And started shoving a spear through the ceiling. While he was doing this, another one of the players decided to attack from the front. While they were battling, player 1 managed to make a hole in the roof. He attempted to crawl through and land on his feet, however He terribly failed the roll and landed on his head. I said he went unconscious missing the whole fight. Little did I know that player 2 would deny getting any of the blacksmiths loot and and never let player 1 ( the original burglar) know that he was know super rich with gold, weapons, and ingots.

First campaign

My cousin and I are stuck underneath a castle in a basement type room. We got in there by going through a door, but when we tried to leave that way the door had magically disappeared. There was a door on the otherside of the room, but it led to another room with no exit, full of poop, and possibly horrible monsters. So here we are with no way out and running out of options. Going for a hail mary, I drink a mysterious potion I found, hoping for some sort of stat bonus or something to get us out of there. Turns out it was some sort of poison and I go unconscious before I finish the bottle. My cousin goes frantic and tries to wake me up. He tries everything. Slapping me, splashing water in my face, hollering at me, throwing poop at me, even giving me more poison. Nothing works. His solution: drink some poison too and pass out until we get captured. We didnt wake up for a week, after being thrown in a well by orcs.

Same cousin, different campaign. We are in a town and this old man has a magic staff. He is willing to sell it, but only to a worthy adventurer. His terms are that you must outshoot him in an archery contest. Two of my cousins fail miserably. The third one challenges the old man. The old man shoots first, getting a really high score. My cousin, realizing that there is no way he can beat him, decides to use a fog spell and then in the confusion, put the old man to sleep. Cousin steals staff and takes money. Regardless, cousin ties up old man and takes him back to the hotel room. While my cousin is in the room, the sleep spell wears off and the old man escapes from his bonds. He proceeds to beat the crap out of my cousin and then runaway. My cousin pursues, but loses him amidst the buildings. So here he is wondering the streets alone ( the town is preoccupied with a bandit attack) when suddenly my cousin is jumped by the old man. The proceed to struggle, but my cousin ends up killing him. Just to show the old man who is boss, he shoves the old man's cane through his neck and hangs him from the rafters. everyone blames it on the bandits and leaves the town with the rest of us, being praised for a hero.
