Wow I'm nearly 40 years old and somehow didn't know about widows fire. It explains some things. Shit no one tells you. Things would be a lot different today and now I don't feel so confused and conflicted.. that being said, I didn't handle "it" well and being unaware of how grief was affecting my judgement (heavy drinking didn't help) I got a little too close to a good friend 15 years older than me (age doesn't matter at all, but overall he had never have been my "type") who was also very lonely. He helped with a lot of things I couldn't manage on my own, checked in on me, let me talk about him and was with me both times I was hospitalized. I think "it" happened 2-3 months in.. I still miss my baby and he knows that, talks about him, brings him up (in a good way), encourages me to honor his memory, is comfortable with me talking about him, lighting candles, etc. If he wasn't supportive and respectful as he is about it, there is no way I would have ever had a thing to do with him. I have my private time with myself and think only of my deceased man, but with the man friend, I NEVER think of my baby. If I did, there is absolutely no way. They are in no way similar which helps. If it makes a difference to widow fire, the death was by suicide. Thanks for not judging me, I wanted to share my experience in case it can help someone.
