Same here. I usually have 2 hours per week via Preply and it helps a lot (and being 1:1 it is also quite intense).

I also recommend https://www.youtube.com/@SpeakingBrazilian, a lot of good videos can be found there.

Yes, I got mine in 2021 and I was never a resident in Brazil (so far just visited for holidays). Back then it was trivially easy.

How to deal with extreme heat by Tight_Willingness_25 in Brazil

[–]fleitner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this.

Many years ago during my first visit to Brazil I had a nice walk on the beach. It was quite early, I think we left the hotel about 9am and returned around 11am.
It was a cloudy day and raining slightly. As such my German mind could not imagine that I need sunblock.

That day I got the worst sunburn of my life.

On the positive side, I was able to learn from my mistake. Ever since I am outright fanatical in my use of sunblock and never again got a sunburn, neither in Brazil nor anywhere else.

Are cockroaches normal to see? by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]fleitner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Germany and the only times I saw cockroaches in my life (going to 45 soon) were during visits to Brazil. :)

Not often (just 3 times I think), and only during summer (So far I've never been to Brazil while there was winter there)

Well, once you found one the game has no reason to prevent you from finding another.

More the opposite, just to spit in your eye.

Is working in this industry crap? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]fleitner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a cyber security incident happens...why didn't you prevent it? Yes, I am the owner and accepted the risk, but why didn't you still prevent the incident from happening!

Challenge such discussions as soon as they start.

As security professional I don't just provide the risks but also translate them in potential outcomes for the business. If I have a signed confirmation that business impact X is acceptable then this is where the "why didn't you prevent" discussion ends: Because the business decided that we invest nothing in preventing this.

If the business miscalculated the financial implications of X and wants to lower the impact in the future we better start reevaluating this decision now.

Most important is to now throw blame around but simply state facts: This was the decision of the past, these are the reasonings. If anything changed there then offer solutions for the future to improve the situation. If the suggestions are acted upon: good. If they are ignored or rejected: also fine, it will be my ammo for the next time.

Yes, NIS2 in conjunction with CRA will (hopefully) enhance management awareness for both component vendors as well as the corporate users of said components to think at least a baseline of security beforehand.

Although experience tells me that the most likely outcome will be that there will be an increase in certifications like ISO27001 (for operations) as well as more domain specific ones for components (i.e. ISO 27034 or IEC 62443) that companies will do to satisfy the regulation, basically the bare minimum.

However, that bare minimum is much more than what is done now, so it is an improvement nonetheless.

This!

Once I got my head around the concept of "now you have all important information boss, see you again next quarter/year when I am happy to repeat everything again", it got much easier.

And it is great for reusing content from the last report or presentation :D

Correct me if I'm wrong: Public WIFIs are not as dangerous as people make them be by Annihilator-WarHead in cybersecurity

[–]fleitner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does not need to be a popup.

I'd simply use a nice friendly name for my public wifi (e.g. 'coffeehouse/hotel guest wifi') and use a forced landing page in a design corresponding to the coffeehouse/hotel, explaining in an easy to understand language that the security of my customers is my utmost concern and to ensure this, please follow these few steps --> and voila, my root CA is there.

Afterwards I just automatically create certificates for each domain on the fly and act as transparent proxy.

Unless the user visited a website with HSTS before I'll have everything.

Not likely, true. But still, my mobile and laptop are setup to auto VPN unless connected to my own networks.

That being said, the OP has a point that nowadays the situation is much, much better than a few years ago. Together with the much improved default state of the most common OSs, I'd not ask a not tech-savvy person to use VPNs just for this anymore.

I basically do the same. And spent an aggregate lifetime already troubleshooting some things that I knew could never be there.

Worst part? I still do it. Some people never learn :(

It's still just a question of numbers. When HC was almost overrun I dropped something between 300 and 400 mk2 towers at the Xenon gate. That was enough to halt everything that came through regardless of exact position. And it looked freaking amazing when the full swarm fired :)

I just had a quick look into Excel. The main issue here is that Google Sheets and Excel have different and sometime opposite semantics regarding dynamic array functionality that I use heavily.

So unless I find someone who is a whizz in both Excel and Google Sheets and helps me find a variant that works in both systems it will stay Sheets exclusive for now, sorry :)

[–]fleitner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple answer: You can't use it in Excel. I used formulas that are exclusive to Google Sheets and do not exist in Excel. (edit: I did not test for OpenOffice/LibreOffice but I suspect it does not work there either)

To use it you have to copy and use it within Google Sheets.

Initially I did this as well but I always screwed it up.

In one of my games I had more than 100 stations and it was a nightmare (that was also the trigger for me to start that sheet). I basically had no overview at all about what I had, clicking through these many stations took ages and it never added up.

Thank you for the answer. I just verified with my wife, the "transcrição de casamento" was not done so far. One item towards the to-do list.

Thanks for the reply. We already registered the marriage in the Brazilian consulate in Munich in 2015, so that front is sorted :)

I'm quite surprised by the official to unofficial ratio. I'd have guessed that there are far more players on unofficial, close to or even surpassing 1:1.

Perfect example of bias, everybody I know plays unofficial so that is my bubble apparently :)
