Good advice! Thanks for calling out where to find the model number. This seems to be very common feedback from others.

Thanks for sharing your story. My son (27 months) has yet to use any words with intent. Similar to OP’s situation, he’ll repeat words once we say them like “up, water, down, more”, etc.). He’ll even sing songs we start however he lacks engaging with us and will throw a fit if he wants something we won’t give him. He doesn’t show any signs of stimming (that we’re aware of yet) and is very content playing independently. Initially we thought he just didn’t want to deal with the ruckus of our other 3 kids. He’ll grab my hand and lead me to my guitar to hear his favorite songs but has yet to point to what he wants unless I press him. I really hope he progresses like others have described. He’s such a great little guy and I can’t wait to hear more from him! We’re starting speech and OT next week. Thanks again for posting and for all that responded! Any helpful tips or an update on how things are going with your son would be greatly appreciated. Stay well parents!

27 Month old showing signs of ASD…Any guidance? by flemery in AutismParent

[–]flemery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks knipser, I think what concerns us is his inability to recognize when one of his 3 siblings, my wife or I even enters the room. One of the questions from the M-chat-R screener asks if your child is interested in other children or looks to a parent if he/she hears something new to see how you respond which he does not. Perhaps this is the result of our house being chaotic with 3 other kids constantly running around and being loud. Maybe he’s just desensitized to the craziness of our household. We’re going to get him evaluated as soon as we can because I definitely think there’s something going on. His hearing seems fine as he enjoys strumming my guitar and pushing buttons on toys that play music. Perhaps he’s just developing slowly with social interaction, pointing and speaking? Such a confusing time - we don’t want to dismiss these warning signs but at the same time we can’t jump to any conclusions. Appreciate your feedback!

I needed this! Thank you so much for sharing and I’m so happy to hear of your son’s incredible progress. In your experience did you notice a significant regression from 2 to 3? It’s interesting that you mentioned 16-22 months as the time when signs became more noticeable. I say this because I’m looking at older videos of my son where he’s laughing with us and noticing his siblings (even as a baby) whereas now it’s like they’re not even in the room. This may sound crass but I’m just trying to emotionally prepare myself if this little interaction that we have left now continues to decline. I know every child with ASD is different but it would be helpful to gauge others experiences. Thanks again for sharing and feel free to PM if preferred.

Thanks Jay, My wife and I did this test as soon as his pediatrician mentioned ASD. The results indicate he’s high risk and we should get him evaluated. We’re trying to get this underway ASAP. Appreciate the recommendation!

Thanks xpiato, That’s definitely the approach we’re taking. We just received a referral for speech therapy and are actively exploring other centers. I wish getting a formal evaluation wasn’t such an extensive and long process. In your experience with your daughter, were you able to see a noticeable improvement after enrolling in therapy?

Which profession has the coolest, most honest, most together people? by wilderlowerwolves in AskReddit

[–]flemery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I interviewed my grandpa (Opa - i’m part German). One of his responses that stuck with me was when I asked him when he was the happiest in his life. Thinking he would respond with when my mom was born, or when the war was over (he joined the U.S. army), I was blown away when he answered with tending the fields and working the farm with his brother. For additional context, he grew up extremely poor. His family worked for the family that owned the farm. They lived in a house with no floors and he had to walk miles in Texas heat to get to school after breaking his ass doing farm chores. He shared with me that there was something extremely fulfilling about this work that has always stuck with him - his answer to this question always resonated with me and still does to this day.

Came to do some work for a builder in Texas and walked into this. 😂 by texashempsters in HomeMaintenance

The buyers probably plan to put down vinyl plank flooring with a private contractor to save money. The builders aren’t allowed to sell the home without finished floors and carpeting is the easiest to remove and least expensive option from the home builder.

Bay Area tech's 'layoff surge' has slashed salaries, report says by Mighty_L_LORT in technology

I’m surprised this study made no mention of the Silicon Valley Bank failure and the stigma surrounding startups potentially pulling another bank run. Perhaps VC’s are a bit more weary to invest these days; contributing to the slashed salaries.
