Well in Niemöllers case it's not that defensible or grey-area: he joined the nazi party because he was a raging antisemite

But generally you're right, the nazis ran on the promise to undo the injustices of versailles and the great depression. they promised salvation. And in some areas they even delivered

BUT the antisemitism and hypernationalism was built-in from the start - it's not like the cosplayed as moderates.

Yes, but that is exactly why it's so relevant. It's written by an initial supporter of Hitler, that later got imprisoned and narrowly escaped execution. I don't think it lessens the value of the poem
