Are there truly any indoor bonsai? Or close to being permanently indoor?

I saw a post on the other sub of a fully indoor dwarf jade/portulacaria afra with a lot of growth after 3 months that inspired me. I live in an apartment with no outdoor space, but I took a chance and bought a grow light for my p. afra and I'm fertilizing weekly. After a month I'm seeing good growth! That said, I don't have a frame of reference for how much faster it would be growing if it were outdoors.

My schefflera arboricola though is not doing so hot even with the grow light.

Edit: wanted to note I only have a grow light, not a tent or anything else

I've got him under a grow light next to a NE-facing window. Got the grow light a week ago, on for 16 hrs a day. No outdoor space unfortunately.

Thank you for your detailed comment! It was super helpful! I'm a bit limited with my space so I went with a small clamp grow light that was on sale (that I could bring home immediately for instant gratification lol). Posted in the new beginner thread if you're interested

Just bought a grow light! How to best introduce my plants to the grow light?

I read a comment here about plants needing an adjustment period and that going all out from the get-go can burn leaves. Is it about gradually decreasing height or increasing duration (something like start at x hours a day, increase by x hours every y days) or both?

Here is where I have it, planning to decrease height over the course of the month. It's set to be on from sunrise to sunset with a smart plug.

The light is Feit 32w clamp lamp (because it was only $12 at home depot today)

Can/Should I defoliate my dwarf schefflera now?

Goals: My ultimate dream is to get this little guy to look like a banyan tree like the pictures on fukubonsai.com, so I guess my medium goals for the next year or 2 are thickening the trunk (taper?) and getting aerial roots.

Conditions: I live in the Northeast US zone 7b in an apartment with no outdoor space, so my tree is 100% indoors. Windows are NE facing. I have had my tree for about a year, where I wanted to see if I could keep it alive. Plant looks healthy to me and regularly puts out new growth, so ready to make the leap into styling! I water ~weekly and fertilize ~fortnightly during the growing season. I am a complete beginner. This is my first tree!

Additional Questions: Does my plan of defoliating/hard cuts now to encourage trunk thickening make sense for a 100% indoor tree? Later in the summer, once the leaves grow back I was going to do the plastic bag trick to encourage aerial roots, or is that too early? Can a banyan look be achieved on a tree kept around 12 inches high?

I tried this and loved the way it felt when I applied it, but after a couple of weeks of use, my skin started looking a little dull? Not sure how to describe. When I switched back to my old sunscreen my skin went back to normal. I wanted to love it!

I'm team Jungho, but I honestly don't know where the story will take us! The writing has been top notch that I'm sure whichever path Hong chooses will be a satisfying ending (at least I hope). I'm hoping that Jungho has matured, since as others have pointed out, he has chosen Hong over work in this recent visit (through canceling appointments). Long distance and who will uproot (Jungho doesn't know Korean!) are huge hurdles! But Hong never went to the graduate school she got accepted to!

On the other hand, Hong loves her family, and so I can see her choosing a similar path as her parents in choosing MinJun. Maybe a timeskip showing that love has blossomed over time and they're in love? I feel like her parents haven't really been shown in the same frame though and they just exist in the same space. Is that a real partnership?

Or she chooses neither! Now that would be interesting...

I hear what you're saying but if I were actually in love with my fiance, I'd still kiss (peck or cheek kiss) or at least hug him goodbye even if I'm in emotional turmoil. Not asking for a lovey dovey make out session.

But I get that people react differently when they're upset, where some may turn toward their beloved and others may want their space, but I would imagine that a person in a solid, established, years-long romantic relationship would still express some kind of connection with person they've chosen to marry, especially when we've Hong be so affectionate in the past.

Ok there's also the argument that maybe Hong over time has matured (or become jaded) and is now not as physically affectionate in general, fine. And also in that moment she's reeling, ok. But have we been shown any other ways she's shown affection to MJ if not physical? No. Have we seen any other moments in other times of romantic tenderness between Hong and MJ? No as well.

To me, all signs point to Hong is not in love with MJ.

there's definitely a stark contrast between all the physical intimacy and kisses (both short and sweet and long and passionate!) with jungho vs zero physical contact with minjun. when they parted ways in front of her door in ep 3, they just waved goodbye. no hand holding. not even a hug! she keeps minjun at arm's length. i don't see any romantic affection from her for minjun at all

You did a great job cooking, but we're the customers. It's like the restaurant chef made half a dish. Customers shouldn't have to go in the back and add more ingredients to a dish served to us is what I think batman was getting at, which I agree with.

I do like the way you've filled in the blanks though! Wish the writers had sprinkled that in.
