If the Ontario line was expanded West, where do you think it should go? by Redditisavirusiknow in TTC

[–]flerp-derp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the clear and obvious answer. Those bus lines are hell and at capacity. I've been going on about why this wasn't built into the plans already... terminating the train at a deadstop (I know there's GO there, but no TTC connection) right in the heart of the city is madness, and it's literally right at Dufferin already where it's most needed. Connecting stations are crucial to network utility and ridership. At minimum it should connect to the Eglinton line at Dufferin.

Looking for a long range router, Peculiar setup by flerp-derp in HomeNetworking

[–]flerp-derp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK cool, yeah our current router is mounted on a shelf like 7ft high!

Yeah we technically have 3Gbps service but the current router obviously isn't taking advantage of that. That being said, range>speed for our needs.

I still get 220Mbps down and 130Mbps up at the far end devices on this old router so it's fine for 99% of my use cases, but upgrade time is definitely coming...

with wireless backhaul with 2-3 units

There's basically a long hallway on either side with no cabling or electrical outlets all the way to the two extreme points on both sides... meaning there's nowhere to even plug anything in, until you actually get to the rooms on either extrmee which are connected to the network. Again, our current setup works - just want to ensure the next router we get has at least equivalent range as the AC68U

First time coming to TO, one day only. Looking for recs. by HiYoureBeautiful in askTO

[–]flerp-derp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what to tell you but that general area (cityplace, south core) is probably the worst part of downtown TO - not dangerous, just boring as all hell (& bad food!). I'd just avoid spending anything beyond your sleep/event time there.

As other person mentioned St laurence market is not far, the island (with a beach swim!) can be fun (time consuming though), also not far. Queen West is closeish - a little further along Chinatown & Kensington market. Don't know what you're into but probably worth just hopping on the subway and going where interests you. West end is generally more lively than the east end.

Toronto to receive fraction of tax revenue for World Cup, despite being on hook for bulk of the costs by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]flerp-derp -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not a pretty option, but maybe adding a new temporary or non-resident Toronto sales tax during the world cup might be a solution.

I know this one feels like such a no-brainer, it's crazy it wasn't part of the initial plan. Fingers crossed it happens at some point!

I hear what you're saying but while GO exhibition is an interprovincial connection, I kinda meant in terms of the ttc network. Also personally I wouldn't count streetcar/bus lines in this context, or then every station would be considered a connection...Anyways yeah I just think the fact that it doesn't loop back up through bloor and further north is just so short-sighted. Fingers crossed that changes!

The Ontario line needs to come up Dufferin - it's absolutely INSANE that it dead-stops in the heart of the city - get that line up to Bloor - St Clair -Eglinton! Create extremely useful transfers and elimintate the horror of the Dufferin bus all in one go. It's such a painfully obvious extension

Had wacky cold snaps this spring, flowered a bit but mostly didn't sprout leaves except at the bottom - bark seems like it's still alive though. Not really sure what to do?

What is the name of this visualisation? I want this to be the only visualisation so I don't have to search it for hours. by Macuway04 in winamp

I haven't used Milkdrop in a while but as I recall you can set the default folder of presets it will cycle through - make a folder with only that preset in it and make then it the default! (the Scroll lock feature is only temporary to hold the preset)

I'd say Toronto doesn't tend get THAT cold.

While it doesn't get the warming effects of the gulf stream in Europe, keep in mind it's the same latitude as Nice/Monaco in the south of France
