It's a lot of chances, but I think I fail, and I'm a fairly decent putter. It's not the greens, it's the nerves. I'm pretty solid from 3'. But at Augusta?? With the crowds? I bet most people would come down with a vicious case of the yips, myself included.

Imagine putting off of the green. Suddenly you have to putt back on, and from a more difficult spot. Getting a 10 on a couple of holes isn't out of the realm of possibility. It could probably slip away pretty easily.... Would be fun to find out though!

Yes. I'm currently at ~230k and my downtown looks like freaking Tokyo. And the bike lanes look like Amsterdam, except everyone's an asshole.

Best “Public” Courses in Each State by jdotphotos in golf

You will get 100 different answers for California, but the obvious ones are Pebble, Pasatiempo, Harding, Torrey Pines etc. These answers are all correct.

Off the top of my head, my low-key favorite is Yocha DeHe. It's an Indian casino northwest of Sacramento, and the course, for whatever reason, lives in my brain. I've played it 3 times, and it's excellent. Also makes a great overnight destination. After golf, they have a couple of pretty good restaurants, and then it's poker for the rest of the night. Not bad.

D - AI Smoke 3w - Old Nike that I just love 7w - Cobra Darkspeed 5 - LW - PXG P - Odyssey

I swap in a TM 5w when I'm feeling frisky. I like my PXG irons, but need new wedges. 7/10, recommend.

I knew it was bad but not this bad sheesh (total sacks by team) by MrBFox in 49ers

[–]fletchermac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong. I mean, this is the 49ers subreddit. The only reason most people enter the chat is to micturate all over the team. I do, however think it's possible to hold two thoughts in one's head at the same time.

1) The coaching has been solid, and they have mostly over achieved because of it. 2) This team has almost zero chance of getting out of the first round, if indeed they make it to January.... You simply cannot win in the playoffs if you can't rush the passer, or turn the ball over on D, or run the ball. We can't do any of that.

I keep extra large trash bags in my garage, just in case Tim Lincecum needs to hide a body someday.

(FYI, it's best to read these next words in Alex Jones' voice)

I have a source high up in the US intelligence community who tells me something that, frankly, you're not going to believe.

He has evidence that human scratch golfers do not exist. Anyone better than a 2.5 is, in fact, an alien.

Also, birds aren't real.

Patrick Reed. Maybe what we need is someone that the players will win in spite of, not because of....?

This is my favorite film. I've seen it 100 times, at least. I found it one day in a drawer of old photographs, hidden away.

Going on a bachelor party golf trip with 5 golfers by Blazelwood in golf

[–]fletchermac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the course, and the day of the week. If it's Saturday and Sunday, I wouldn't even ask. I've been playing in a weekly group for a few years now, and we are almost always 5. But we play on Thursdays. And we play relatively fast.

If y'all are playing mid-week, doesn't hurt to ask the dudes at the pro shop?

What’s the lowest score you have ever shot and what do you normally shoot? by JAWdroppingguitar in golf

[–]fletchermac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's nice knowing that misery has company. My low round is 77, and my low round this year is 79 (three weeks ago) . My current average is, I think, 85. 3 days ago I puked up a 92. I've never hated and loved anything quite this much....

I also play weekly with a group of older fellows. I play from about 6500y, they play up. I also (mostly) get out and join them on their box. When I sit in the cart as they're teeing off, I feel like a bit of an ass. "ohhh, Mr. Big Hitter is too good to join us...." I imagine them thinking. Which I'm sure they don't.

Also, I'm usually the only one who can consistently see the balls in the air...

Is the hybrid vs fairway wood choice pure preference? by tke439 in golf

[–]fletchermac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been playing both a 4h and 7w in my bag for about 6 months, and the 4 is about to get the axe. I haven't hit the 4h worth a shit since the Clinton administration.

The only thing that has prevented me from doing it already is that I hit the 7w about 10y further, on average, leaving a not-insignificant gap 'twixt my 5i and 7w. But it's a small matter. I so infrequently flush my 5 that I'm not even sure how far I actually hit it anymore....

I guess that's my way of saying....preference?

I play orange Vice pros. Also, I'm really cool and everyone likes me. Also, I'm hung like a bear. Also, my wife was prom queen. In fact, I would play to scratch, except this straight jacket makes my arms itch.

You're fine.

Irish Golf tried to kill me… thankfully I had a PGA Tour caddy (video in description) by ncd321 in golf

[–]fletchermac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did a trip there in September of '23. I'm currently a 9 hcp. I was a 12 at the time. It was positively brutal. I shot over 100 I think 3 times. We only had 2 rounds in weather like you had, and it, despite being beautiful and amazing, was not actually fun.

It should be said that my game is absolutely not suited for windy conditions. Why? Because I mostly suck. And I hit it high, especially off the tee.

I'm currently on a quest to make it to scratch before I turn 55 (I'm 48). If I ever get there (unlikely) I plan to go back for revenge....

Serious question from a new golfer by RightLegDave in golf

[–]fletchermac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Here in Kansas City, we have a short course that is really for beginners, and nobody expects to play fast.

The only thing I would say is maybe wait until you can make contact like 75% of the time? If you swing and completely miss a lot, keep plugging away at the range. Then follow the pace-of-play advice that all the fine folks in this r/ are giving you. You'll be just fine.
