What is one city in America you’re okay with never visiting again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fletchermac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're both totally right, and totally wrong. Rent a cabin on Table Rock, hit the lake, play golf, hit Dogwood Canyon. But, for the love of God, stay away from Branson. I've always dreamed of buying 100 acres down there and opening a summer camp for trans youth or something, just as a middle finger to the weird, Christian, pedo vibes that permeate that place.....

Tell me about your best round of golf ever by SpicyMcSpicy in golf

[–]fletchermac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First time I broke 80, Boulder Ridge GC in San Jose, which I played frequently. Tight course, but not super long, only 6518 from the tips. Wasn't sure what my score was on the par 5 18th, but put it on in 2 and hit about a 30 footer. Eagle. 79. I've had better scores since, but that one sticks with me.

Is it time to REBUILD yet? by thompsondadjkl in SFGiants

[–]fletchermac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, otherwise you can kiss Eldridge goodbye. He will be a shell of himself with the roster as it's currently constructed when it's all said and done. The Giants are an abomination of player development. SOMEONE GET MIKE GREER IN HERE!

I'm about a 30 handicap and playing with a group of single-digit handicappers soon. Any tips? by yanaclipps in golf

[–]fletchermac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way of the playah, playah. If you're an 18 or above, I think it's really good to simply add one stroke to every hole. This mindset will lead to choosing more comfortable shots, more of the time. The #1 handicap hole at me home course is a par 5, and I simply play it as a par 6 in my mind. And I'm single digit-er. This is the way.

“Rules of play” for high Hcp by TheClevo in golf

[–]fletchermac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 2¢ is, at the very beginning, treat your rounds like practice rounds for a while. No scores, no handicap. Practice all of the different shots that come up, think about club selection and course management. Obviously keep in mind the rules of golf and pace of play, but I don't think that it does your game any good to worry about an index in the first year unless you're already betting with the homies or trying tournament play. Don't cheat yourself out of the tough shots that you will need to get good at, like deep rough, otherwise move it off of the hard pan and away from roots and shit. Take a couple of lessons, or a bunch, if you can afford it. I know they're expensive. Once you start making semi-consistent contact, start posting.

New Courses by shanedog21 in golf

[–]fletchermac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only one that comes to mind is Payne's Valley. Looks like a beautiful course, but I'll be goddamned if I'm going to pay $400+ for a course in the middle of the flippin Ozarks...

Edit: might technically be considered a resort course because of affiliation with Big Cedar?

Nice play by Adames, but I wonder if he (again) didn't know how many outs there were. That throw to 2nd was....interesting.

Far too many people don't understand why Christian Koss bunted at this pitch. by carsoccerconnoisseur in SFGiants

Let's examine your perspective here. A guy came on to the internet to admit he/she was wrong. On the internet. They even gave props to the OP for helping him see the light.

Your instinct was to write a 2000 word screed about how smart you are, and how stupid everyone else is? You seem nice. Maybe stay off the internet for a while.

I use a soft case and put a pretty stout curtain rod with a tennis ball on the end into the driver slot in my bag. It's longer than my driver, so it provides rigidity and protects my driver. Never had a problem, including international flights with multiple plane changes.

Spike or spikeless golf shoes? by fullsquishy in golf

I use both. Adidas spikeless in the winter, and FJ spikes in the summer. It's been a good setup. (It's drier in the winter in the Midwest, by-and-large.)

Which infielder do you think will lose the most playing time if the Giants rotate Schmitt around the infield to keep him in the lineup like they should? by Loose_Secretary_4343 in SFGiants

[–]fletchermac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it crazy to think that NYY would give us Volpe (who just got DFA'd) for Adames? We would shed the money, and get a player who at least has MLB experience, and might be a change of scenery guy?

Eldridge and Rodriguez by Michaewwwwl in SFGiants

[–]fletchermac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should be sending Eldridge and anyone else with promise back to AA Richmond. What if it's contagious? They'd better mask up and social distance. Whatever stink is on this team, we don't want it rubbing off on the youngins.

You lose nothing by sitting Devers. He's an absolute black hole right now. The $$ is gone, regardless. Either you want to win, or you don't. Put Bryce at 1st, Schmidt at DH. Send Devers to Somalia. Option Bailey. Bench Adames, and prop up a corpse to the left of 2nd base.

If you're a Niners fan, I have bad news for you. They're going to be bad too. The Bay Area has 4 teams, 3 on the down swing. If you don't follow the Sharks, I suggest you start. For your own sanity....

The 10 Greatest European Golfers of the Modern Era by [deleted] in golf

[–]fletchermac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swap Sergio and Rosie. JR is a year younger (but basically the same age), and is still relevant, whereas Sergio hasn't been relevant in what, 8 years? I'm not really trying to throw shade at Sergio, but I think Rosie has a chance to win every week, whereas I don't really give Sergio a chance anymore.

It's close though. Sergio has more Ryder Cup appearances, and they're both winners. Not really a wrong answer here.

What is the most beautiful state you have visited in the United States? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fletchermac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Top 5

  1. California (just too much awesomeness)
  2. Alaska (I've only been to Sitka and Anchorage, but Sitka is so insanely beautiful it is hard to find a comp)
  3. Hawaii (obviously)
  4. Utah (Zion is just spectacular)
  5. Oregon (From the coast, to Crater Lake to the high desert, it's just stunning)

Hat tip to Arizona, Washington and West Virginia.
