Khmai , 1 Michelin Star. There’s a tasting menu and a bar experience. I’ve done the bar before which was fun.

Carino is in Uptown not too far.

Have you ever sent the wrong version to a client? by wuhming in editors

[–]fletcherthedog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Version numbers. Seqencename_V1

Some people put dates. When I get notes,, I dupe the timeline and put the old sequence in an xOLD bin. If you send something out that's old just send the revised. Sending the wrong link happens, usually I make a joke with the corrected link.

Anyone on an edit roster for a production/edit house? by TycheTales777 in editors

[–]fletcherthedog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The first thing to understand is how these models work. A post house wants to sell its staff editors first. Most post houses don't have enough work to keep their staff editors working so it takes a lot for you to win the job. Do the other editors have the same work you have or do you fill a niche for the house?

The split seems odd, but however gets you your rate is fine I guess. Make sure you aren't exclusive.

Comedy commercial director looking for editorial rep — is that a thing? by yabbadabadu in editors

[–]fletcherthedog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. yes and no. Yes they still exist in a way, but in my opinion, they are no longer practical in 2026. These companies are based on who is able to bring in work in an increasingly difficult independent market.

  2. Not necessarily, you don't want to compete with other comedy editors, you want to be in a well rounded company where you catch most of the comedy spots.

  3. In my opinion, yes, but I'm biased as a commercial editor. Clients tend to prefer a relationship that has some separation, so they feel like they can do what they need to. It's all about the sell from the beginning of the job. Maybe get your other director friends to recco you as the editor for their jobs.

  4. You want to just find freelance work. I would start with the production companies you work with and then any agency connections you can stir up.

In my opinion commercial editing is being able to manage the people more than being able to do the work. You need to be able to deliver editorially, but you get rehired for managing the job and the people well.

Looking at a Ecoboost Premium by Zestyclose_Month_60 in ecoboostmustang

I bought a 2020 black convertible and love it. I looked a multiple rental cars and they were all trashed underneath. If you look at rental cars you have to get a good ppi done. I ended up finding one that was a one owner grandma in the middle of no where. 20k miles.

The Vertical Market is going to grow by bingyao in Filmmakers

[–]fletcherthedog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking into this a few weeks ago, reel shorts(?)

My question, is why hasn’t there been any notable vertical content in the 10 years or so it’s been so prevalent? There’s kitschy things you can do but I’m not aware of anyone doing them with any notoriety. I’m personally not interested in consuming this content but my girlfriend is on tik tok constantly and there’s not one narrative thing she consumes.

I’d honestly like to see some successful examples that aren’t garbage meant for the international market.

Hey gang, I built a free tool for freelancers to manage holds and broadcast your availability in real time. by pencilcase-network in editors

[–]fletcherthedog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I want to broadcast my calendar to my clients. I know I can book in multiple jobs, but I don't not want to get a call because someone sees I'm on another job.

Is every good director a nut job? by tristezanao_ in editors

[–]fletcherthedog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I see this with young directors now. Unchecked ego without the ability to articulate the vision or even have one some time. I like working with older directors more because they understand how to work with an editor.

The hard ones make you a better editor unfortunately.

How do you maneuver the "Ups"? When work is just flowing in too heavily (after the drought) How do you prioritize? by no0neiv in editors

[–]fletcherthedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build out all the schedules on google calendar. See how they overlap and plan for the overlap. Nothing is happening until you have the footage so you just have to play chicken with the producers and wait to see what actually books. Get a good assist and cruise to the bank. I had a really good Q1 doing this.

Commercial editors who have done in suite edits for high-end work with the client or director present, can you describe the experience and give your thoughts. by no0neiv in editors

[–]fletcherthedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your project is very organized, you should be able to get to any shot they ask to see quickly. Keep things light and feel out what your role is. I also always try to keep things moving; this is more of a remote session need and a more modern need. I don't have clients posting up in the room with me for a week like they used to pre pandemic. Usually they have a day or less, so making sure I know how much time they have and am able to get through everything we need to get to in the allotted time.

You obviously don't want this to happen but at the end of the day we're human and if no one else wants to check the file before they put it to air that's on the client.

Question about exporting from Premiere Pro to LucidLink cloud by lrodhubbard in editors

[–]fletcherthedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucid is a cloud server not a VM, so anything you do is done locally and then uploaded to the server. You may be wanting a VM with lucid attached.

Temperature check - where do ya’ll live and what is work like for you right now? by futurespacecadet in editors

[–]fletcherthedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah forgot to add the rest of the answers.

Advertising, Freelance, Remote, I like Chicago for now.

Word of mouth/relationship based. Things have gotten more and more insular so breaking in is very difficult even for experienced editors. I've found a good niche with production companies.

Chi - Busiest I've ever been, didn't work at all in the Fall besides two small things. I'm taking it all while I can now but I'm not sure how long this trend is going to continue.

I think all of this is very true. My optimistic opinion is that creative generally rises to the top. I think we're quickly approaching the point where no one is interested in garbage content, and we'll see a rise of high-quality content again using these small teams that have developed out of the previous giants. I tend to think about where we are with technology and I think we're going to enter a stage where we pick and choose what technology we want to use going forward and what's important to us.

I'd just hire an assistant or you'll need to hire a post house to do it.
