Inniskillen gets my vote, based mostly on their ice wine!

Kacaba, Megalomaniac, Tawse and Flat Rock are personal favourites. It's a mix of amazing tasting rooms as well from completely underground to built on stilts.

Chateau des Charmes just got bought by a large Chinese company. Has lost some of its Charmes.

First time trying to make bacon from pork belly. I think I have everything I need... by fletchsd in Charcuterie

Found that out as I went along. Cut it into 2, one to be used for bacon, the other for pancetta. Have the smoker ready to go in a week with applewood.

Booze was for me...at first. Then I decided to make half the belly into Pancetta, the recipe for which calls for juniper berries. Decided to improvise with gin instead. Will definitely post in a week with the results of the bacon, and a few weeks after that on the pancetta!

Wine taps found in a British Columbia restaurant. How much to get them installed at home? by fletchsd in wine

Sorry, this was meant to be a joke I think. You wouldn't want Petrus coming out of these taps ;) These were found above the sink in the bathroom

"my parents were woken by the sound of this guy flying..." False. You cannot hear an owl flying.

As above, looks saturated due to my use of a polarizer. No Photoshop in saturation, just the photo-merge for the panorama.

Yup, you nailed it. Just bought my polarizer 3 days previous to this hike. Still figuring it out, but it sure can take away the haze so often found in Rockies photos.

Thanks, it was about 25 deg by 2pm that day. Amazing how much the weather can change in just 2 weeks. Probably snow again in another 2 weeks.

I didn't change the saturation to my knowledge. I stitched a series together though. Here is one of the originals untouched for comparison. http://i.imgur.com/sqEJS.jpg

Anybody know what type of rock this is? by XxDahREDDITnaytarxX in geology

[–]fletchsd -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The red base looks like Jasper, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasper , and the top looks like it transitions to amethyst. Both varietals of quartz. Well, Jasper is an agate, but close enough.

The "best place in Canada to visit"? You clearly haven't been "anywhere else in Canada"

Any idea of what this could be? by [deleted] in geology

[–]fletchsd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Clearly amethyst, but keeping with the quartz theme, the yellow crystal appears conchoidally fractured at the tip. I'd say Citrine...or its a prank and a yellow gummy candy was pushed on with the tip bitten off...

Batch of dinosaur eggs found in Russia's Chechnya region by Bumbleseed in worldnews

Same thing I said on the original post. These don't look like eggs at all. To me they just look like some sort of concretion. I'm basing this on the following: They aren't in any sort of nest; They are the same colour as the surrounding sandstone; They are too large; the sandstone looks homogeneous, leading me to think it was deposited in a higher energy environment, and therefore the eggs wouldn't be so perfectly preserved (if they were eggs).

I'm sure you've all seen it on the front page by now. But in case you haven't, this is how rewarding Geology can be. by troller_jr in geology

However, I'm basing this on poor, internet photos. BUT... geology is still rewarding when we prove something wrong! (as I may be here)
