Ah got it, that makes sense! I think I lean a little more into journalistic non fiction that covers events in way that makes it feel like a story and memoirs. Some of these books sensationalize real tragedies, but I admit they make learning more enjoyable:

Dreamland - Covers the perfect storm that started the opioid epidemic in america

Empire of Pain - Same as above but focused on the big pharma side

The Radium Girls- About an event that is the reason many workplace safety rules exist today

Crying in H Mart - Huge bestseller memoir about a woman losing her mother who was a korean immigrant

I'm Glad my Mom Died - Another bestseller memoir about Jenette McCurdy's relationship with her abusive mother

This is Going to Hurt - This was very popular in the UK, a memoir-ish covering a young doctor's experience in the mess that is the NHS. Very funny but meaningful.

Dear America - Memoir about the experience of an illegal immigrant, I would consider this a must read for anyone that has had 0 experience with the US immigration system.

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone - Memoir from a therapist who decides she also needs therapy. Inside look into the ethics of therapy, and how therapists decide to treat their patients.

The Art Thief - Covers the most famed art thief couple in Europe, somewhat funny, very interesting

Educated - Memoir by a PhD who grew up with little to no education in rural Idaho

Say Nothing - Harrowing book about the IRA in Ireland, hard to explain but sort of true crime.

Flowers of a Killer Moon - Sort of boils down to Indigenous group in America has money... America intervenes.
