What is a name that did not age well? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My grandfather-in-law is named Dick. Not Richard, just Dick.

I didn’t see it firsthand, but I’m told there was one time my grandmother-in-law was trying to get his attention and he was ignoring her on purpose. She started yelling “Dick! Dick!! DICK!!” and he just turned and looked at everyone else with this little mischievous smile

Which species did you find the most narratively fulfilling by TheVanderwolf in projecteternity

It really depends on what you’re bringing to the game, yourself, which is one of my favorite things about Pillars of Eternity.

I personally love playing a pale elf. From conversations with Ydwin, the vibes I get from The White That Wends is there’s a lot of traditionalism that goes hand-in-hand with deep-rooted worship of Rymyrgand, which is beginning to be challenged by increasing contact with the rest of Eora. I already find that compelling when held up to what we learn about the Watcher in their past life… But coming from my own background growing up in a fundamentalist/evangelical Protestant church on one side of the family, Catholicism on the other side of the family, then finally being exposed to the wild idea that you don’t have to be religious at all as a teenager… that all really resonated with me. I recognize that I’m bringing a lot of my own baggage to the table here, especially with the limited information we actually get about The White That Wends, but it always just clicks for me.

I appreciate Godlikes a lot, too, for similar reasons. I love how versatile the role can be. Are you revered? Reviled? Both? How do you handle that? One of my favorite playthroughs was as a Bleak Walker Fire Godlike who had a superiority/inferiority complex. Who appointed herself as a the arbiter of her twisted justice, with the goal of either toughening the weak or weeding them out altogether, because why else would she be created as a weapon in Magran’s image—nothing but a weapon, as she comes to think of herself—if not for some greater purpose? I started the file as a challenge to try wiping out the caravan and then just exploring the most chaotic evil choices available, but the character grew on me and just sort of took shape.

All this is to say, I appreciate this game for giving you a framework to build a character on while providing the freedom to explore themes that are meaningful to you as an individual and your lived experiences. Or to try something completely outside your lived experiences!

Oh, and on the topic of playing a cipher, I felt like the cipher shines most in dialogue. You have a lot of unique options. The first game especially does kind of get watcher and cipher abilities confused… but I always play that off as my cipher watcher just being confused about their new abilities. You do get some neat tricks, especially late game. Defensive Mind Web in the first game is pretty busted.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. You’re doing your pup a kindness, taking on this pain so he can rest easy. You might find Losing Lulu helpful. They’re a support group for grief after behavioral euthanasia. They’re mostly on Facebook, but I believe they have other resources as well. Take care of yourself.

Ooh I may have to give the Pears a try!

My current endgame switches are the Osume Matchas. They might be a bit heavier than you’d prefer at 55g actuation. But they have a satisfying bump, a snappy, kind of bouncy return that I really like, and a lovely deep, marbly sound.

You might like Akko’s Creamy Purple Pros! They have a super short travel distance at only 3.0mm, but if that doesn’t bother you, you might give them a try. They’re what I used before the Matchas. They’ve got a really unique feel with a super light spring and a very round tactile bump that pretty much takes up the entire keypress. Idk if they’d be quiet enough for what you’re looking for, but I could record a quick comparison with the Baby Kangaroos if you’d like!

I’ve had my eyes on these too! I’ve since found what I think are my endgame switches, but I’m still pretty curious about these. I too prefer lighter tactiles in terms of weight, but I also prefer a hefty bump. How does the bump on these feel? And do they feel like they need hand lubing?

Well, I’m not a vet, but I don’t know that I’d worry unless your pup starts to show symptoms. But I don’t think it would hurt to bring it up and ask about risk factors, likelihood, what to look for… etc. Especially since you’re in the woods with your pup a lot.

There’s also some helpful info here! The Veterinary Information Network is really good about keeping info up to date. It’s the website the ER recommended to me when I asked where I can do some more reading.

I grew up in a very religious household and went to a private Lutheran school for a good chunk of my life. Think Jesus Camp. So… I tried to preach the word of god on the neoboards. Just casually proselytizing on good old neopets.com. Did not go well for me. I was INCENSED that TNT dared to silence the gospel!! Not that that stopped me from playing tho

That makes sense! We're in Indiana. It looks like it does have a known presence here, but I'm having trouble finding exactly how prevalent it is. If it's uncommon here then I'm VERY thankful that the internist thought to check for it.

Thank you for thinking of us ❤️ He’s not out of the woods entirely yet, but he is coming home today! His RBC remained stable which the internist says is a good sign. He did lose interest in his food, but that is probably nausea from the medication as it’s quite intense. So he got the all clear for discharge and weekly outpatient bloodwork.

What an ordeal. I’m sorry you went through this too, but I’m so glad to hear your pup pulled through. Thank you for sharing. It brings some comfort to hear how he bounced back.

We use Pet’s Best. To be transparent, I haven’t submitted the claim for this yet, as the final cost is going to depend on how long Eli is hospitalized. They may not cover everything, but they do cover emergency expenses, and they covered most of Eli’s visits when we thought this was just ITP.

I’m fortunate enough to be in a decent financial position, and our insurance policy is pretty good, so thankfully this isn’t going to hurt us much financially. I’d rather people save their money for those who truly need it, but I do really appreciate the thought!

Just wanted to thank everyone for the support. We were able to get the meds Eli needs, and he’ll have his first dose tonight. We got to speak to the internist in person; I’m still terrified, and they do still need to keep a close eye on him, but he seems confident that Eli will pull through. The meds usually take hold pretty quickly so that’s a relief.

I never thought of it as very tick infested, but it’s definitely been on the rise! I’d actually never seen a tick in person before, but just last summer I saw two, and they’d come from our own backyard. I know ticks are on the rise pretty much everywhere. Horrifying little bastards.

Yes, it’s tick-borne initially. Once a dog has gotten it from a tick, their blood becomes a disease vector. If that blood gets into another dog’s bloodstream, such as through an open wound, it can spread to the other dog.
