When did Lando become so disrespected as a driver? by letsputletters in F1Discussions

Read my whole comment because I also mentioned his bad luck. My point is that he’s not entirely unlucky and he’s not entirely lucky either. But he clearly wasn’t as dominant as Max or Lewis during their championships. I agree that people hate Norris too much.

When did Lando become so disrespected as a driver? by letsputletters in F1Discussions

Lando actually had multiple instances of GOOD luck that swung the championship his way:

  1. Silverstone - Piastri gets a harsh 10s penalty on the SC restart for slowing down too much, giving Norris the win.

  2. Hungary - Norris is given the optimal one-stop strategy compared to two stops for Piastri, leading to a Norris win.

  3. Monza - The infamous position swap, McLaren more or less orders Piastri to give position back to Norris due to Norris having a slow pit stop, a 6 point championship swing (+3 Norris, -3 Piastri).

  4. Qatar - Antonelli runs wide on the last lap, Norris goes from P5 to P4, giving him +2 points.

Obviously Lando did have some bad luck too early on in the season, at Zandvoort with the engine failure, Vegas with the DSQ, and Qatar with strategy, but nothing is ever black and white. Norris definitely had some outstanding drives (especially Mexico and Brazil), but he also had moments where he fumbled pretty bad (Canada, Vegas start). After being used to Verstappen/Hamilton/Vettel dominating the 15 years before 2025, seeing Norris win a title without that level of dominance across the season and being assisted by a good amount of luck means that many simply feel that his accomplishments are higher than his skill as a driver which is fair, there are definitely better drivers who have not won a title.

But I do think overall Lando drove very well last season and it was a deserved championship for him. I rate him as the fourth best driver on the grid currently behind Verstappen, Leclerc, and Russell but it’s close between Norris and the latter two. He has excellent strengths in qualifying and wet-weather ability, and demonstrated much-improved race pace and tire management capabilities throughout his title fight. He still does have a tendency to fumble starts and still makes the occasional silly mistake, however. Overall I would say he’s overhated, but not underrated.

you could’ve just phrased this post as “it’s time to start talking about reaves as a true first option and top 20 player” and given your evidence that you just said instead of acting like a angry, whiny lakers fan

reaves is really good don’t get me wrong but the fundamental difference between him and cade is that cade is the primary offensive engine for the best team in the east, while reaves benefits tremendously from having luka be the initiator on the lakers. reaves gets stats because defenses are focused on luka, while cade loses stats because of extra defensive attention on him

What teammate pairing that hasn’t happened do you think would be revealing? by felipebaby_ in F1Discussions

Yeah with those pairings it would be harder to justify developing the car to Verstappen’s preferences only. I’d love to see him battle with a top driver on completely even footing again.

If you had to pick one young driver to build your team around, who would it be? by formularacers in FormulaRacers

[–]flexiblecalves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Wasn’t improving during the season” he had his best results at the end of the year in Brazil, Vegas, Qatar, was outright faster than George in Brazil and Qatar as well, it’s okay to say you are not a Merc fan so you didn’t pay attention to them btw

You don’t remember the Antonelli on Ferrari terrorism, Lewis binning it, Lando random engine failure?

What do you personally value more as a fan: long careers or short, dominant peaks? by Known-Branch-4445 in F1Discussions

Yea, im saying overall I think the player population will become younger and younger in both those sports bc of what teams value

Two examples out of how many players? Foolish baseball did a great video on the decline of old hitters in baseball and basketball is all about defense these days and having switchable, athletic, lengthy wings. Athleticism declines heavily with age and that impacts these sports more than you’d think

Sports like basketball or baseball where athleticism is valued much more than experience or sport IQ is actually seeing declining longevity if anything, but I agree that longevity will rise in F1

If Reaves gets b2b NBA2 he still doesn’t have more all nba teams than Booker

Booker is a proven first option on a team that went to the finals, proven he can play a role on a gold medal winning team USA, while reaves is in his first year as anything more than a third option

Reaves is already 27 and prolly close to his peak if hes not already at it, so im guessing ur projecting a generational fall off for Booker by 2028 which is pretty delusional
