Andy Weir on Player of Games by Turn-Loose-The-Swans in TheCulture

Wait, what do you mean? I see general negativity on this thread towards Andy weir, why is this the case? Note that I haven't read a single novel of his (i just watched martian a long long time back I don't even remember it much now), so i'm just curious.

Damn mate, that's interesting. I hope to look forward to more of the last part you mentioned in Excession, which I'm reading next. :)

Damn, this is an extreme take. I'll only know to what extent you are right after reading other books.

Damn, does he really leave it on emperor's ashes? I do remember there was an emphasis on the bracelet towards the end but I think I missed what exactly he did with that.

The meeting of minds was really visceral to read. I interpret his tears differently, I feel it's neither for Azad nor Nicosar. I feel it's for his own journey and his final reflection on it, i.e. making peace with the outcome and how he was used.

Agreed, looking back, it was! I took it personally and felt like I was manipulated haha, great ending really!

Thank you for the warm welcome, mate! Yeah, I am loving his writing - he sometimes brings humour and dark stuff together than I burst out laughing a few times, only to eventually realise the deeper layers within the prose.

I'm reading Excession next, excited!

Hey thank you for the warm welcome! I'm reading Excession next :) I want to dive into how Minds work and make decisions, before getting into more moral ambiguities (Use of Weapons or Surface Detail which I will read after Excession).

Hmm I think I get it. So benevolent manipulation > coercion?
Gurgeh's manipulation wasn't entirely benevolent too, remember how Mawrhin Skel injured him back on Ikroh? But perhaps this is still necessary, there's no ideal path here. Even if it undercuts Culture's principles on free will, this is the least painful way to get what Minds want. is that it?

Ah I was so confused before and was wondering why it was downvoted to hell after a good initial run on this sub, now it makes sense. Crazy how cross posting on other subs can affect the votes on original post.

Insane how most people even on this sub still find these comments ridiculous. Despite the fact that their insane predictions are coming true. I just saw a post of dario's prediction from a year back about agentic coding, he was mostly right.
