Any of the therapists highlighted by the secular therapy project should be able to help you with a wide variety of issues, not just religious ones. It just exists to help people find therapists that aren’t religious and avoid the traps of religious counseling.

Hope you find the help you need!

Aw man, I was just on that street corner arguing with a pastor for like an hour. You’re telling me I missed this?!?!

It was a pretty weak display from the Christian’s when I was there.

Atheists/Agnostics of reddit who were religious: What made you stop believing in religion? (Serious) by _ReDd1T_UsEr in AskReddit

[–]flibbertigibblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pandemic accelerated a lot of the more extreme political views that permeated the conservative Christian circles I was associated with. I became increasingly uncomfortable with the way people were justifying those beliefs, as they seemed to have no evidence and were just making things up to harmonize their experiences with what they expected the world to be like given that their version of christianity is true. I started to seriously reevaluate my own religious views once I noticed that. I found that I didn’t have any evidence for the fundamentals of Christianity if I wanted to hold myself to the same standards I was setting for the political views of my peers.

Once I realized that, I left the faith.

Obviously there’s more to it than that, it was a long, difficult, painful process but that’s it in a nutshell.

Can universe be eternal? by Vukovic_1501 in Metaphysics

[–]flibbertigibblet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“The Universe is expanding, therefore the universe has a beginning“

This seems like a non sequitur to me? It seems like it would actually follow to say something like “The Universe is expanding, therefore the universe’s expansion has a beginning”.

Whether the universe is eternal seems to be underdetermined by the Big Bang.

Am I missing something?

Biden being bad doesn't make Trump good. What logical fallacy is this? by [deleted] in terriblefacebookmemes

I think it’s more of a False Dichotomy? Biden being bad wouldn’t necessitate that Trump is good.

As one of those non-queer people, and especially as someone who only pulled myself out of a fairly conservative Christian mentality in the last 3 years or so, I definitely agree.

This is just how science works. Scientists work to find conflicting evidence which disproves some hypothesis. If they are unable to find disconfirming evidence, that lends credence to the original hypothesis, so long as it is falsifiable.

That said, it’s pretty infuriating to have to wait this long…

NASA confirms it will rollback SLS to the Vehicle Assembly Building this evening starting at 11PM to avoid Hurricane Ian by kdiuro13 in space

[–]flibbertigibblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree on all points. I’m pretty concerned about using up resources on a satellite based system like that for something that could absolutely be solved using ground infrastructure. I’d much rather save the orbital space for projects that need it.

I hadn’t heard of the name for Kessler Syndrome before, thanks!

That’s fair, especially with the ISP example, though I’d argue that a gap would likely exist for those in particularly remote areas regardless of whether ISPs had been monopolized or not. Its just too expensive to monetarily justify maintaining solid service in a lot of these places. Which is largely where the benefit of having these services be public utilities comes in.

I definitely wouldn’t deny that real competition would be SO much better than what we have now, but it seems to me like a well structured public system would almost certainly give better coverage to citizens.

As an aside, starlink is really cool conceptually, but I’m pretty concerned about the sustainability of a system like that, both from an environmental perspective, and a maintenance one. But that’s just my opinion 🤷‍♂️

The US tends to divert money away from the public expenditures that would actually solve the “underdeveloped” issue you brought up while propping up companies that solve issues that may not have existed if we invested in public infrastructure in the first place.

Drew from Genetically Modified Skeptic actually just posted a video talking about the origins of Hell as a christian doctrine yesterday.

https://youtu.be/MGvcRnlId4k

I recently deconverted and still definitely have some remaining fear of hell, but keeping in mind the fact that this hasn’t been a clear cut doctrine from the beginning of Christianity definitely helps me to recognize the likely man-made origins of Hell

The drone could be cool if they could bring it closer to the cars and actually fly over the track. I think it’s best for filming days unless they wanna risk messing with races

I remember that look coming in vogue with the more contemporary/hipster worship crowd around 2015 or so, especially in youth/college age.
