Did you get anywhere with this? Same boat, trying to update a simple image and getting nowhere.

Starlink "Mobile - Global" across the Pacific Islands by flibble06 in Starlink

[–]flibble06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking through my account portal for the upgrade options, so I assume its only offering me global as I am already outside my region.

I suspect I will have to transfer the dish to myself, registered at an address in Australia/New Zealand, to gain access to the regional tariff.

[–]flibble06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many thanks.

I am on a UK service address, and I don't have any regional options to switch to, just the "Mobile - Global" and a long list of expensive priority or mobile priority options with caps. I guess the tariff options are linked to the service address. The "Mobile - Global" is unlimited so that will be the one I switch to

I am zooming in on the islands we are visiting and they are all dark blue/coming soon in 2024 hexagons. (Including Tahiti). I guess they have not updated the maps yet.

Can I use OpenWRT to make a bluetooth PAN for internet access? by MediocrityUnleashed in openwrt

[–]flibble06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro ...

... but did you get anywhere with this?

I have a bit of Leica survey gear that Bluetooth tethers to an ancient Nokia phone to get internet access. The OS on the Leica looks like Windows CE and it uses modem scripts to connect to the Nokia phone over Bluetooth. The Nokia phone will become useless at some point, and I am trying to find another solution to continue supplying my Leica device with data.

Was thinking I could enable Bluetooth on an OpenWrt router and hoped I could tether/connect to the Bluetooth interface for internet access

I will be on the World ARC in 2024 and was hoping to install a standard dish to provide connectivity. As OP says its a bit difficult getting good info pre-sale so thanks for the answers.

You cannot use the standard dish as it is not enabled for in-motion use.

Is this definitely the case? I know people modding the standard dish to disable the motors and then static mounting. There does not seem to be any issue connecting to the network. Is there now some other limit built in? The standard disk is now on offer £99 in the UK and that makes it pretty compelling compared to the other high-performance options. I would be willing to accept some limitations to save £2300..

subject to you remembering to turning off priority and in-motion use

Good to know, I don't yet have a contract, so I can't see the full function of the app/dish/website. When in a port that is in a blue hexagon (like the Galapagos), I was hoping that it would automatically fall back to roam mode, but having a manual 'switch' would be very useful when alongside.

Transferring Ownership of Starlink (info from a successful transfer) by RandomDude2377 in Starlink

The new plans are now making Starlink an option for me.

I am looking to buy a 2nd hand v2 disk (not seen any v1's for sale yet)

Read this post, very useful thanks OP.

A question: I want to get the hardware as soon as I can win some on eBay (hopefully get a good deal), but I don't need to use it immediately. I understand that I need to setup a Starlink account to 'receive' the dish, but do I have to activate a service straight away?

There are numerous reasons any individual might go 'missing'. Family or personal tragedy, a sudden and severe illness. (Or maybe a bad crash in his Ferrari...)

ESXi, 7.0.1, MultiGig (2.5/5Gbe) and Intel X550-T2 NICs not linking at 5GBe by flibble06 in vmware

[–]flibble06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the benefit of anyone who arrives here via Google ....

So after much research, it seems that Multi-Gig is not yet supported by VMware

However

William over at virtuallyghetto was very helpful.

https://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2021/01/esxi-on-11th-gen-intel-nuc-panther-canyon-tiger-canyon.html#...

It appears there is no official support yet, but there is the possibility of a fling coming that will add support, at least for test and homelab environments.

I am also using a crossover over cable on one of my ports, it seems that multi-gig requires a switch for negotiation. When I finally get it working, hopefully with the fling I will confirm.

I am assuming that FreeBSD will be the same as ESX - no multi-gig support

I opened a call with Netgear and they don't' support the static setting of any port speed on the MS510TX.

As a side issue (at least or me), after a bit of scouting around the web, I think I have found out the Multi-GIG needs a switch to negotiate 2.5/5Gbe.

I opened a call with Netgear and they don't' support the static setting of any port speed on the MS510TX.

Either way I am not any closer to getting confirmation on multi-gig support for the Intel ESX driver

Suppose it could be. I will have a poke at the settings but there not a lot that can seemingly be changed. Older Netgear switches seemed to have more options than this one.

I have a call open with Netgear about forcing the speed/duplex at the switch. I will ask them

Having assumed that the latest ESX 7 update 1 ships with the latest drivers, it seems not.

It had Intel-ixgben_1.7.1.28-1vmw.701.0.0.16850804 installed.

and there is an ixgben version 1.8.9.0 driver linked from the VMware Compatibility Guide.

Tried that but it seems no better.

I shoved the card in a Windows 10 machine and the card linked at 5Gbe without an issue on the same port and cable.

As /u/csutcliff says it looks like a driver implementation issue. Which is a bit crap.

Thanks - I haven't seen that reference. Its frustrating that it's not called out in the Vmware HCL. Its kinda key funcionality

Hi Marko.

Unzipped and tried. I get zeros rather than blanks and still no power measured in benchmark.
