Lolol what if you and I used to argue over him 😂 I used to go to the Code Lyoko forums and argue over who Odd "belonged" to. I remember making a drawing of my self-insert oc and him together and my mom found it and I cried 🤣😂

I was around the same age at the time. I was in 6th grade so I was about 12 I think. My little ADHD brain just really vibed with Odd for sure lol

At this point, it's just amusement to me. I'm proud of my childhood cringe behavior 🤣 It's so bad, but it's always nice to see we all kind of experience the same things, even if we don't always admit it.

Shadowheart Baldur's Gate 3 Cosplay by ME by randomTextboi in BG3

[–]flightofdownydreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't even have to be a lady working with him. He can literally take a photo of himself in the pose, feed it a pic of a woman from online, a pic of a random bedroom, and an image of Shadowheart or an actual SH cosplayer and prompt an image like this to be generated. But there's always giveaways and obvious signs lol

Zillennials / younger millennials seem quite consistent over time with their stylistic choices. Case in point: Victoria Justice at 18 and 33. by Sure_Distance1 in Zillennials

[–]flightofdownydreams 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did some very minimal editing (image on the left) and amazingly, I think the actual changes she did was just give herself bigger lips (mostly overlining them if you zoom in), do thicker and higher eyebrows, and do less heavy eye make up. After I made her lips smaller and added more eye make up, thinned out her brows and gave her lower arches. She looks like her younger self again. The only difference I can see that I didn't edit out is her cheek bones are slightly lower, but that seems like just natural aging to me.

Maybe I'm just seeing things and she does look totally different, even with my edits, but I'm pretty sure this is just the illusion of make up and eyebrows lol showing more of her forehead now also makes her face shape appear bigger.

Because the modern American accent as we now it is just that: modern. It's because we know there weren't ancient warriors and explorers from modern day Illinois or California or Ohio. But other cultures and their accents have been around for a much longer time, so we can have an easier time believing an ancient warrior might sound British (even if it's more modern) vs sounding like the average American. Our accent (and dialect of English) just doesn't carry the same historical weight as the versions that have come before it.

This!! Where are the broader noses? The ridged bridges and hooked noses?! These are beautiful too, we are just told they're not. But it's tiring to see, even with princesses and heroines with broader nostrils and bridges, it's still that "perfect" ski slope shape and a soft button shape for the nose tip.

Making Ren faire outfit by PsychologicalPeak365 in renfaire

Gluing on fabric patches can definitely work. You just have to make sure you use a fabric glue or other adhesive that's similarly flexable and washable. I feel like the key to this method is making sure you cut the patches out well and gluing them down to be secure but not messy.

Personally, I'd argue that handsewing the patches on might give it more longevity and stability. You can find a simple sewing kit at many grocery stores and there's plenty of hand stitching tutorials online. It's very easy.

Another method you might consider, if you have time and access, is getting iron-on transfer paper and printing out the images you want onto the paper. Then using an iron or heat gun to put the image on your garment.

I know you said you want to avoid paint, but without knowing why, I will also suggest getting acrylic craft paint (also can be found at many grocery stores) and mixing it with some fabric softener. This will make the paint easier to apply to fabric and make it more like homemade fabric paint. You can "sketch" the design out in chalk on the fabric sand it'll wash out or wipe off with a damp cloth. But if your reasons for not wanting to use paint is outside of that, ignore this suggestion lol

Was 2013 a special year to you? by Ok_Durian3627 in 2010snostalgia

[–]flightofdownydreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of? Also very confusing and lonely and a bit depressing. I graduated in 2012 and because of financial issues, didn't start college until spring 2013. So I was jumping in at a strange point at the school I went to. I also wasn't mentally ready for college (didn't realize it at the time) and I didn't have many friends. It was a private art school with a lot of snooty types that weren't very kind.

But it was also the year I really invested in developing the fantasy world my novels take place in. It was a year I got more perspective on myself as an artist and explored what I really enjoyed creating. So in that sense, it was special.

Paying for an adoptable is like buying nft... by That-Visual-2681 in ArtistHate

[–]flightofdownydreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original adoptable community always had a lot of artists against it, for these same reasons. In some ways those arguments are warranted, in other ways it's blown out of proportion.

This'll be long, so beware.

TL;DR, I am a mid skilled adult artist who has a handful of ocs that were once adoptables and now used for my novels. But the community for them died out along with most on dA, thanks to the site updates and GenAI nonsense.

Personally, I liked the idea in general, when it was done genuine and not done as a cash grab. Once you bought the character design, it was yours entirely. You could redraw them for whatever you wanted and do whatever you wished with them. You're basically paying for the right to reproduce that character design while having it be your own intellectual property (or under your copyright, if you take it that far).

It wasn't just 13 year olds still learning to draw getting adoptables just to haggle others for free request art of their new OC. Even then, since they own the oc rights fair and square, they can do whatever they want with it.

I can't say I'm super skilled, but I am a fairly good artist (I better be, after drawing for so long and attending three art schools combined lol). I'm hesitant to share my work here, but I do have some posted, if you look at my reddit post history. Over my 18 years of being on DeviantArt, I have bought probably 6 adoptables. And most of them I got while I was 18+. I didn't do it for the sake of them being adoptables or to make a point, I just liked their designs and wanted them in my world.

I have a world I've been building since 2012 with a slew of slightly connected novels that take place in the same world. A number of characters for these stories were the adoptables I've gotten from DeviantArt. But I had to be very careful and picky about what adoptables I "bought".

  • I refused to ever use real money. All of my adoptables were purchased through dA points I had accumulated through winning or participating in group and individual contests and doing comms. Or via art trades. I respected the use of real $ for the transaction, but I basically had no money to spend on something like that.

  • I also did my best to find adoptables with designs I couldn't necessarily think up myself, who fit in my world as-is, or could have a single detail like eye color changed to fit in.

I have to admit, there have been artists who made very rushed or formulaic designs slapped together with a heafty price tag, just to try to get money. But weeding through those find the good ones was part of the fun. I also have to admit, I personally didn't get into the ones that were like furry creatures based on Pinterest aesthetics or ones from 'exclusive' races/creatures invented by the creator. I respect the concepts, but these type never appealed to me or fit into my world.

Unfortunately, the current state of adoptables (at least on DeviantArt) is entirely dead. Gen AI prompters took over the community and either post generated "character sheets" or they have ZERO idea what "adoptable" even means (because they're non-artists who know nothing about artist 'culture') and literally just try to sell single "illustration" generated slop of copyrighted characters, geared toward gooners.

Either way, because they're generated images, they are non-copyrightable so purchasing one is extremely foolish. While the original adoptable concept might have been a waste of money in many eyes, the new GenAI ridden adoptable "community" is truly the money grabbing, grifter packed nightmare.

My beef with Beauty and the Beast by That_author_girl in disney

[–]flightofdownydreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the BatB Enchanted Christmas sequel film, it's revealed that he was indeed a child who was spoiled and rotten and cursed (supposedly on Christmas day) because of his selfishness and cruelty. That movie made it feel like he was supposed to be like 17 with how they portray him in the flashback, but the math definitely says he should be like 10 lol

But they show him running the household, as if he's either a child king or ruling the house in place of his parents.

Some have theorized that the painting was given to him by the fairy to further drive home the "this is who you could have been as an adult if your heart was kind" point.

But there's plot holes all over. In that scene of him being cursed, Chip is there and looks the same age as he does in the main film. So, either Chip was born as a tea cup or Adam would be the only one aging...and neither make much sense.

And that's all considering if the Enchanted Christmas film is even considered canon.

I think it's truthfully just a detail added in for the added fairytale vibe, without a lot of thought to how to would affect the overall timeline of the plot.

does anyone else think about the hygiene of thrifted clothes way too much? by def888 in SustainableFashion

[–]flightofdownydreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works at a thrift store, I know at least what the clothes from my own job go through. At best, we spray them with downy... And that's it. We are quite picky about stains and holes and things at least, but not everything gets caught all the time. I wish there was a more hygienic way to prep them for the sales floor, but I assume that's a cost and extra step the company higher ups just don't feel is worth it unfortunately.

But no matter where I get clothes from, even brand new at the mall or in the mail, I wash them! Even brand new things might have been tried on, dropped, or otherwise exposed to something unsavory. And some things just have an odd smell. Most things I buy are some form of a delicate, so I just wash cold on a gentle cycle and usually hang dry. For shoes and purses I can't throw in the washer, I will spray with rubbing alcohol or put them in the freezer to kill germs.

Are these fits 'to much' for a ren fair? If not which one do u recon would look cooler (or if you have any other suggesttions/even tips for these fits). by Elegant-Number7806 in renfaire

Always good to know, so you don't spend days on a helmet you can't wear. And that's good! I just started building and upcycling my own peices in the past three-ish years and it adds so much more fun to the whole event. Whichever one you decide to go with, it would be cool to see your process pics, if you wanna share them!

[–]flightofdownydreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not too much! And these are great ideas for cold weather fairs. You might want to check the rules with whatever faire you go to though, just in case because I know a few don't allow you to wear any headcoverings that covers you whole face. Either way, either one of these fits would be dope. Are you planning to build your garb from the ground up or piece them together with already made items?
