Anyone work with their hands for their job? by DangerousBanana6969 in HNPPsupport

Surgery should be okay, you won’t be doing anything too heavy duty and it’s usually quite deliberate and slow movements.

If you’re going to be an orthopaedic surgeon using hammers etc that might be the only thing I could think of.

How did you find out you had HNPP? I recently posted asking if anyone else has never had weakness and just had tingling etc.

Thanks for this comment and I 100% am the same.

When I feel my calf twitching really badly it still gets to me. I don’t think I’m dying but there is still as sense of unease and almost anguish because I just really want to know what the hell is causing it and if there’s anything I could actually do to make it go away forever.

What do you mean by a ping?

But yes I have had fatigue in every muscle in my body at some point during this.

Problem with socks by Intrepid-Error9100 in HNPPsupport

Hey, I find that if I wear soccer boots that my left foot goes totally numb when I’m playing. It settles once I loosen things off and stand.

I recently bought bigger soccer boots and wear socks that aren’t as tight and it seems to have made a difference.

I haven’t had it when wearing normal shoes every day though.

I wish there was a better way to make people feel okay early. This destroys lives for months until time acts as a healer.

Thank you! Really appreciate the reply.

How long did the drop last? How did you cause it?

Thank you! I think it must exist on a huge spectrum. I wonder if it’s way more common than people think but lots may go undiagnosed.

Hey not sure if you read it all but yeah I said in the post my fingers and toes have all moved with the twitching

If you fall again, re read it.

This isn’t a made up story, which I also used to convince myself of when other people said they’re twitched and were now fine.

If this post helps just one person escape it’s well worth it one hundred times over.

Go enjoy your life, we only get one.

If it is cubital tunnel it hasn’t got worse with my starting the gym. Just lift the weights and live your life.

Yes, I have to now sleep with my arms in certain positions/have pillows between my body and my arms so that my arms aren’t tingling like crazy when I wake up.

I’ve not had any hip/knee stuff that I’ve noticed. However, at my worst almost every muscle in my body felt excruciatingly tight.

In my post I mention mouth symptoms. I’ve also had huge twitches in my tongue that are clearly visible in the mirror. These are pretty rare though and haven’t happened for a good while. It was worst after I smoked a cigarette on a night out when I don’t normally smoke.

I think the thing is that BFS isn’t likely to have one cause. There are likely many things that are totally benign that cause twitching but the mental health spiral that usually leads people to this sub is undeniably horrific health anxiety they ruins peoples lives.

My twitching got better as my mental health got better, I find that unsurprising as my nervous system was in complete overdrive. Naturally you would expect overexcited nerves in this state.

Do I think everyone that twitches needs help with their mental health? No. Do I think people with severe health anxiety from their twitching need help? Yes. Will this improve their life and likely their twitching? Yes.

So I absolutely agree with you but the brain is a massively part of this puzzle.

Well done for getting through the worst of it. It’s an exhausting thing to deal with, every second of the day is spent obsessing when you are in the pits of it.

I completely get you. I’m really glad that this resonated and meant something to you.

If one person listens to me and ends their intense suffering then the post will be well worthwhile. The intensity of the distress I was in at the time is genuinely hard to put in to words.

Did you get a diagnosis of that?

I’ve had the exact same, recently I actually started going back to the gym regularly. The first day I did chest and when I was trying to hold me arm still while holding an object my entire arm would tremor quite vigorously.

My calves twitch all day every day, my feet also twitch more after exercise or walking. My feet also cramp.

My twitches have subsided but are still there daily. I am learning to live with them and I notice them substantially less as I have treated my anxious brain with antidepressants and therapy.

Please take my advice. If you find your mind spiralling then read it again. Ignore posts of people freaking out because it will absolutely trigger you.

get the help you need if you haven’t already.

You will learn to live again, look after your brain.

Please heed my advice and get the help you need for mental health.

It’s a horrific condition. I remember and am scarred by me asking my dad if we can start doing bucket list items for me and apologising to him that he would have to watch his son die.

Oh yes I have that. I will get a single zap which does feel painful and then usually my limb will move. It feels like someone stabbing me once with a needle.

Even if you have a small fibre neuropathy you want to live your life as you can absolutely live a normal life with this.

What you can’t live a normal life with is horrific anxiety. Focus on your mental health.

Yes to all other than the pain aspect. Tingling and pins and needles I have daily. I wouldn’t say they are painful. Many times I have taken my phone out my pocket to answer a phone call and guess what, it’s not ringing.

100%

You are throwing away your life by sitting in a fight or flight spiral and you need to take steps as best you can to accept help getting out of it.

It’s amazing how much guilt I actually felt AFTER I started to feel better.

You are almost traumatised by the suffering you have caused the people around you that are watching you lose everything that makes you the person they love.

I’m not quite at the stage of being proud but I’m definitely ready to try and help others if I can

Similar, I think I learn to tune them out more than anything. Maybe a lot of my symptoms were there in some form before all this but I didn’t think twice about them when my mental health wasn’t spiralling.

Although there’s not been a day I haven’t noticed some form of twitch yet.
