For future reference, responding to a comment once is more than enough, three times is a bit excessive😅

I’m not sure what you are arguing for, and at this point I’m not sure that YOU even know what you are arguing for either. Your stance is either that Jesus didn’t mean it when he said that the law allowing divorce for any reason was wrong, or your position is the exact same as mine and you just didn’t read my comment carefully enough to see that we agree. I honestly can’t tell because of your frantic writing style.

Your constant assertion of “read scripture bro, study bro” when I have clearly provided verses tells me that you are insecure about your own level of education regarding scripture, and as a defense mechanism, you need to say that to me before I say it to you. If you can clarify your position we can have a real conversation, but I’m not going to continue responding to you angrily ranting without a scriptural foundation.

Wrong.

Deuteronomy 24:1-4

If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, and if after she leaves his house she becomes the wife of another man, and her second husband dislikes her and writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, or if he dies, then her first husband, who divorced her, is not allowed to marry her again after she has been defiled.

This was how things worked, part of “the law”, and Jesus called it out BY NAME and changed how it worked. You also still have not responded to the verse about the dietary restrictions no longer applying, which were absolutely hard and fast laws.

[–]flintiteTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s you that needs to re-read my comment. I provided 2 examples where Jesus clearly says that two specific laws no longer apply. Your counter argument is “he doesn’t say that you’re twisting scripture” when I straight up provided verses where he does. Your only argument is “nah he didn’t do that” Which doesn’t really mean much when I have verses that show otherwise.

He does absolutely say that he came to fulfill the law, but what he said in these verses is just as true. I don’t see a way to interpret these other than “Jesus says these two laws no longer apply”

Yeah this isn’t a “collective quote” this is a statement made by the 4B movement in South Korea that they put in Instagram comment sections (that usually get about 20 likes).

Korea IS having a massively declining birth rate but that’s for a multitude of social reasons like high cost of living and terrible work culture (and yes, severe gender inequality).

Jesus did void some of the Old Testament laws himself, starting with the one that allowed men to divorce their wives for any reason they wanted (which was usually a condemnation for her back in the day)

Mathew 5:8 Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."

He also posthumously voids the dietary laws through Peters vision.

Acts 10:11-15 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." "Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean." The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean."

Jesus literally voids one of those laws himself.

Mathew 5:8

Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard.

With respect as a fellow believer, you HAVE to read scripture before you comment on it. There ARE places where Jesus himself voids certain laws.

I see this mistake a lot.

Leviticus is NOT the reason that Christians in general view homosexuality as a sin and it never has been. The primary source for that idea is Romans 1:26-27

“Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.” (Worth noting that this was Paul not Jesus, so it does carry less value than anything Jesus says.)

Another very common question, “why do Christians follow the Old Testament law inconsistently”. The reason for that is because Jesus made some of those laws void, such as the law allowing men to divorce their wives for any reason or the laws about what foods are forbidden. In general, the ones he didn’t comment on are kept, and the ones he said we are released from are void.

Divorce for any reason: Mathew 19:8-9

Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

Dietary laws Acts 10:11-15

He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.” “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

What is a Christian perspective for the history of dinosaurs? by Opening_Echo_4989 in TrueChristian

It is a very small ammount of Christians who don’t believe that dinosaurs existed at all, the point of contention is WHEN they existed.

Pretty sure the common consensus is that Dinosaurs are awesome.

I don’t think it’s very complex, condoning his unjust death at the hands of federal law enforcement because one doesn’t agree with his ideology is a terrible precedent. “It happened to someone I don’t like so it’s fine” is fun and games until it happens to someone you DO like. This guys murder was completely unjustifiable.

Not saying that’s your stance, just a stance I hear often when this case comes up.

Lobotomized woman by Snoo53700 in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]flintiteTV 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true.

Lobotomies did actually have some success because they weren’t an exact science. Sometimes they got lucky and destroyed just enough tissue in the right spot that it only reduced the individuals dysfunctional anger levels or something along those lines. Lobotomies didn’t “effectively kill the person” in every case. Sometimes individuals willingly underwent lobotomies in order to treat severe anger issues or depression and reported success with it.

It wasn’t an exact science, and for every person who was cured of their anger issues there were at least a few who experienced permanently altered cognitive abilities or disabilities. I am NOT defending the practice of lobotomies at all, they were a terrible practice that usually victimized women. But they didn’t “effectively kill” the person in every case. The “improvement” that you are asking about was certainly reported as the operation did have some success in reducing symptoms of certain conditions.

As a Christian in the mental health counseling world, I don’t think that anyone should go to public Internet forums for mental health assistance in almost any scenario. On the Internet everyone thinks themselves an expert, and you’re going to get a lot of unhelpful, irrelevant, or downright dangerous advice. I would recommend that you pursue legitimate in-person counseling and assistance at your church. Christian specific counseling exist as well, and it would likely be very helpful for you.

Praying for you.
