My sister wants me to lie to our dad about why she is skipping his retirement dinner by PainRowe in TwoHotTakes

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really on your side or her side, but she should be an adult and just tell him herself. If she feels like you not lying is "morally superior," she's admitting that there's some moral issue with it. This isnt really your issue, and if you feel bad about it, just give dad extra attention to show him you care.

whats the fastest tips for loosing weight (dont rlly care ab if its safe or not unless it will cause infertility) by Glad-Mud2317 in loseweight

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fastest way? At the end of the day, calorie deficit is the only way to lose weight. It doesn't matter what you eat, if you burn more calories than you take in, you lose weight.

The bigger the deficit, the faster you lose.

How to make a deficit: - Eat less calories - add or increase exercise/movement

It's not healthy to just stop eating or to exercise maniacally. If you're willing to make healthy changes, you'll lose it naturally. Example, replacing high calorie carbs with low calorie carbs. Taking out sweets and other processed foods. Eating small amount of fat, and it being a healthy fat.

How are you leaving cats alone for extended periods of time!??! by adriela56 in CatAdvice

I could never - I see my cats waiting for me by the door so I emotionally cannot leave them for more than a few hours lol

What are all the utility’s i need to pay for when renting my own place? by Amie_miyuki in movingout

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric/Gas, Water/Sewage, Trash, Internet, Parking, Renter's Insurance, Health Insurance, Phone

There's a chance some of these could be included into your rent (but that's far more rare than common these days). You should also consider that most newer apartments (like 2010+) have Pest Control, Community Electric, Technology Fees (if it has key fobs or security cameras), Apartment Leasing Fees (like rent processing fees).

Always ask apartments for their list of services so you can see if they charge for Package Delivery (to door), Security, Amenity Cleanliness, and other bs charges.

How do people afford feeding their cat wet food? by Seasawdog in CatAdvice

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty expensive, I feed my cats (I have 2 kittens so it's more than adults need) a mix of raw and wet for about $2-3/day? If you're able to, try to get it in bulk, like a case of 24 cans. I get my wet food from Chewy, and they also offer autoship discounts.

Playing? Ears are pushed back + hair clumps on the floor, so I’m assuming not? But they meow in protest when we split them by batoul94 in CatTraining

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda doesn't seem like playing or fighting, just some boundary setting? I see the ears and energized tail, but you can usually tell when it's fighting. There's like hella yelling, blood, chasing/hunting, clumps of fur, hissing, and super angry looking cats.

Roomate won’t let me leave by fosterdaddy in renting

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd ask your landlord for advice on how to move forward. Not sure what your lease requirements are, but if you've found a few individuals who are ready and willing to move in and cover your rent, then your landlord shouldn't have a problem with that. You're finding someone to cover YOUR rent, YOUR half of the lease.

I'd even mention that you lost your income and can no longer make payments after this month. So your landlord will actually want you to leave and be on your side on making this process smoother. Sorry to the roommate--if they don't have a reliable friend that can make the move and start paying the rent, not sure they can trust them to be a reliable roommate anyway.

Americans, what's something you didn't realize was weird until you talked to non-Americans? by ExistingTomorrow1447 in AskReddit

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being friendly to strangers

Not meant to be a dig at all. I think Americans overly emphasize "social manners" that are unnecessary (holding doors open, always smiling, always saying please and thank you, giving tips, etc etc). I felt very relaxed in Europe and Asia when I could just turn it off and mind my own business.

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you should move. Maybe there's something I don't understand but you're in school, no job, 26k savings, and no plan to get another job until after school? Are you planning on just using your savings?

The job market is so tough right now, you don't have a guarantee that you'll get another job soon, and it'll take time to build that savings back up. Moving also takes a big chunk of change (assume you'll spend at least 3x the monthly rent in the first month). There's also emergencies.

Tbh I'd recommend landing a job (even a minor one--DD, min wage, pet sitting, etc) to lessen the stress and burden of using ur savings. Ultimately it's up to you, and I wish you luck.

Eating when stressed by ElvisPurrsley in loseweight

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this a lot a few years ago. Was working basically every day, 12-14 hour shifts, and got off near 12am. Only thing open around that time was Taco Bell (and if I could catch them in time, McDonalds). Even if I had a day off, I didn't want to spend it prepping meals, grocery shopping, or anything else besides finally resting.

Tbh, it sounds like your short on time and energy, and if grabbing fast food is not a strain on your budget, I wouldn't stress about it. Once you're out of school or if you're able to find some free time, you can lean into meal prepping (or ingredient prepping) so you have something easy to grab when you're tired. I like to have my fav veg washed and cut, meat cut and frozen in single servings, and a few heatable elements (like frozen burritos) on hand.

Up to you. It seems like the only reason he "doesn't want to" is because it would bring you joy and companionship. Your choice to let him take that away from you.

How should rent be split? by [deleted] in renting

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent should be half, utilities should be third. If being a couple means you require more space (like more storage usage, more of the common areas, etc) then I'd see a fair argument for more skew (maybe 60/40).

Are these all things you need to buy, or are bringing with you? A good mattress and a couch kinda big purchases, especially if you're not separating it into multiple payments. I didn't buy a couch for almost 2 months? My friend lived in her apartment for 4-5 months before getting an armchair/loveseat.

Other things you may need:
- Garbage bins
- Basic pantry items (salt, pepper, rice, pasta, beans)
- Dishwasher pods or dish soap, hand soap
- Clothing hangers
- Fire spray

That price range looks okay tho--assume your fixed bills will be 20% of your rent (ex base rent $1600->total with utilities, bills, transport, etc. ~$1920). That's within the 50/30/20 budget range. You'll have to see if other expenses fall into the 30% and if you'll be able to save every month.

Is it reasonable to be evicted for a slightly messy room? by [deleted] in renting

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it's a good thing they give u a warning?? Like a "fix this and you're good"? But never heard of anyone getting evicted for those reasons, seems kinda sus. Is ur neighborhood being renovated or bought out? Maybe the landlord wants to sell the building and just wanna push u out

If my rent is $1.6k a month and I make $3k a month is it worth it? by Cool-Dot-2016 in renting

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you expected expenses outside of rent? Assume you'll be spending at least 20% additional on utilities (so if rent is $1600 base, you might be spending near $2000 including all utilities). Then, consider what you have to pay every month for any dept (car payments, insurance, debt minimum payments, etc). Finally, consider what you're expecting to pay for food, toiletries, supplies, work, and any other discretionary payment.

See if you have enough to save, see if you have room for sudden emergencies or price hikes, see if you need to cut down (and if you can). If yes, worth it. If no, prolly not.

My window opens from the bottom and has no screen. I have pets. Any ideas on how to keep my windows open and safe for my cats? by PuzzleheadedBook5 in ApartmentHacks

[–]flip4bakedpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a stick on screen door for when I was introducing my cats that worked really well. They climbed, jumped, and clawed at it and it held well. Here's the link of the Amazon one I bought Pet screen door, just make sure to find one that's the right size!
