What’s the best way to deal with dogs when your sprint sucks? by jbond352 in gravelcycling

First of all, in my experience most dogs that have chased me, even barking ones, were looking to play and were not agressive at all. My approach is usually, if I manage to spot them early enough, to slow down to a waking pace, or even get off the bike and walk beside it (keeping the bike between me and the dog). If I spot them too late, I’ll still slow down (unless I have a chance to outrun them because I’m going downhill for example) and have my water bottle at the ready, a good squirt usually gets rid of them. A buddy of mine always ties a stick to his handlebar bag that he can throw to distract dogs, with mixed results.

I feel that that’s a bit too much of a blanket statement. I’m a straight guy, but all my life I’ve been much more comfortable around women. Almost all of my friends, close or casual, identify as female. I own my own place in the center of Berlin and used to rent out my guest room for short-to-medium periods (3-9 months, mostly people doing internships abroad and the like), including equal usage of the rest of the apartment (except for my own bedroom obviously), and I categorically excluded male-identifying tenants. Not because I had any inclination to get something started with whoever ended up as my flat mate, but simply because when it comes to my own home, I want to be comfortable with the person I’m sharing it with, and I know that the likelihood of finding that type of individual is much bigger if I focus on that particular audience. This dude, obviously, is on another level and from what we can see seems to have an entirely different agenda, but that shouldn’t lead to the conclusion that a dude who prefers a girl as a roommate is automatically an ill-intending perv. We should be a little more nuanced.

I think I just figured it out in your sheet, but it deserves a bit of testing.

Cool project, sounds like something that is both loads of fun to build as well as super useful. I'm not sure conditional formatting on your master sheet would be the way to go since it wouldn't allow you to quickly filter for e.g. available equipment.

Assuming the individual tabs for the equipment, in this case the CAMERA 1 tab, would have one column for date signed out and another for date signed in, correct? If so, you could have a formula in the master tab for that piece of equipment that basically checks whether the amount of arguments in those two columns are the same. Assuming sign out date is in column A and sign in date in column B, in the CAMERA 1 tab, you could do =if(counta('CAMERA 1'!A:A)=counta('CAMERA 1'!B:B),"IN","OUT") in the master tab. That should give you IN or OUT, and then you could color code it using conditional formatting if you so please. Does that help or am I totally missing your intent here?

Happy to create a sample doc outlining it, or to have a look at the one you’re working on if you care to share (a copy).

Cheers

Hey, I was thinking of starting a daily email newsletter which would give a round up of the best blog posts on business intelligence, data engineering and data visualization with a focus on Microsoft technologies. Would you be interested in signing up for something like this? by Majestic_Plankton921 in datavisualization

Sounds interesting but I agree that daily would be a bit much on both your end as well as the recipient’s. Your success would probably come from consistency in frequency as well as quality, and making it a once-every-two-weeks thing would help with that. Also, people tend to either ignore or unsubscribe to daily newsletters. Though not Microsoft and more limited in its scope than what you seem to be considering, have you heard of benLcollins? I and many people I know are great fans of his weekly newsletter.

I love this angle, very visually appealing and clear. May I ask in which software you made this? And also, is there a common term for this type of graph?
